Royal Mail shares latest postal delays – 21 UK areas most impacted
Royal Mail aims to deliver to all addresses they have mail for, six days a week. However, this is not always possible due to high levels of sick absence, resourcing or other local factors. Poor weather conditions including significant snowfall, icy conditions or localised flooding can also adversely affect postal deliveries. Delays are currently affecting a small number of local offices, listed by Royal Mail.
On Monday April 17, 2023, Royal Mail made an announcement regarding the status of postal deliveries.
The announcement stated: “Royal Mail operates an air, rail and road network to move letters and parcels between our distribution hubs, mail processing centres and delivery offices around the UK.”
Royal Mail shared that its air, rail and road networks all operated to schedule over the weekend.
The postal service’s mail centres reported that mail was processed and dispatched to schedule over the weekend.
Royal Mail explained that it aims to deliver to all addresses they have mail for, six days a week.
However, due to local issues including high levels of sickness absences or resourcing, this is not always totally possible.
Royal Mail explained that in these cases measures are put in place to ensure that disruption to customers is minimal.
It stated: “In those cases, we will rotate deliveries to minimise the delay to individual customers.

“We also provide targeted support to those offices to address their challenges and restore our service to the high standard our customers would normally receive.”
Royal Mail thanked customers for their understanding and apologised for any inconvenience caused by delays.
The postal service shared a list of 21 offices currently “most impacted”.

Royal Mail also gave an international update, stating: “Following the restoration of Royal Mail International export services, delivery of international items may take slightly longer than usual. “Customers using International Tracked services may notice different tracking information as items leave the UK.
“We are seeing delays to some tracking events in a small number of destinations.
“As we continue to work with our partners to resolve this, if you cannot see tracking information for your items it is likely to be available on the overseas’ posts tracking websites.”

Customers sending items requiring a customs declaration (such as goods or gifts) internationally, have been asked to purchase postage online as opposed to using stamps or metres.
This can be done through shipping solutions or over the counter at Post Office branches.
