Alysia Magen, who grew up in Nebraska and now lives in Miami, has more than 1.5 million followers, where she shares racy snaps and images of her lavish lifestyle.
But just six month ago, she was ‘killing herself’ drinking vast quantities of wine as well as copious amounts of spirits.
The 33-year-old would drink ‘from morning until night’ to cope with the trauma from her past of having been physically, emotionally and financially abused by ex-partners.

Magen’s seemingly idyllic Instagram life masked her hidden battle
Now, Alysia is opening up about her addiction issues for the first time, revealing the desperate battle that she was fighting while posting glamorous images on Instagram in order to keep the image of her ‘perfect’ lifestyle alive.
‘The strong girl was gone – I didn’t know who I was at that time,’ she told NudePR.com.
‘I didn’t know I was an alcoholic, I thought it was just something to manage anxiety.
‘I would wake up in the morning shaking from withdrawal.
‘At the time I thought that was a panic attack and I would start drinking shooters (spirits) as soon as I woke up.”
It was only later that Magen realized what was really happening.
‘I was so mentally sick and could see I was in pain and not there,’ she said. ‘I felt like a fraud and a fake because I was living a lie for so long.’
As time went on, Magen retreated into herself more and more.
‘Throughout that period I wasn’t the person I am at all,” she said. ‘I was scared to even go outside and meet people.
‘At times I couldn’t even look at myself in the mirror.

She said it had been triggered by the pain of being in abusive relationships
Magen, who is pictured in hospital after overdosing on drugs, says her drinking first began while she was in the military and became progressively worse
‘I did it all to block out the pain of being in abusive relationships. It is amazing what trauma can do.’
Magen’s drinking first began while she was in the military and became progressively worse after she was allegedly demoted for posting a revealing snap of herself on Instagram alongside one of her in military uniform.
She claims to have been ostracized after it happened and spent her last six months in the military in ‘painful isolation’.

After being demoted in 2017, Magen threw herself into social media full-time, which involved unconventional hours and lots of parties, and saw her drinking escalate.
Eventually, things spiraled out of control and the model also began taking drugs, including cocaine and opioids.
At one point, she overdosed and was rushed to hospital.
‘The doctors said if I had been 10 seconds later, I would have died,’ Magen said. ‘I was literally seconds from death but I didn’t care. I had lost all interest in life.
‘Dealing with all that pain and trauma makes you want to get high to numb the pain.
‘I wanted to get help but when you have negative people in your life, they always try to drag you down.’

As time went on Magen became increasingly ill. But in March she realized that something had to change.
She splashed out $10,000 to check in to a private rehab.
This enabled her to kick the drinking, leave her partner and set her on a road to recovery.
Weeks into sobriety, she also received a life-changing phone call asking if she would fight Blac Chyna in a celebrity bout in June.
She jumped at the chance and despite earning a draw, Magen put Rob Kardashian’s ex on her backside during the fight and said training for it ‘kept her on the road to recovery’.
‘I’ve rebirthed in six months,’ the model added.
‘I didn’t think I needed help because I’d been in the military and had this attitude like “nothing affects me”.
‘But it did and I needed the support, which I eventually got.’

Since getting help Magen has celebrated being six months’ sober.
‘Now I have recovered, I want to spread the message that everyone should reach out for help if they need it,’ she said.
‘I did not go through all of those things to keep the story inside.
‘So get the support and help you need because nobody deserves to be abused by the people who are supposed to love them.
‘It changes the way you think about people. You have got to take responsibility and that’s what I did.
‘I said: “I can’t do this on my own but I can do it with help”.’
