Shopper horrified by 'mess' cobbler made of her Louis Vuitton handbag
Shopper left furious after cobbler does a ‘shoddy’ job fixing her expensive Louis Vuitton bag: ‘He needs to find a new profession’
- Woman dismayed by cobbler’s attempt to fix her handbag
- The strap had broken on her Louis Vuitton purse
A woman has been left disappointed by the ‘shoddy’ job a cobbler did to fix her genuine Louis Vuitton handbag.
The fashionista picked up the designer accessory at a second hand store but the strap broke soon after.
She took it to be repaired by a man who was confident he could fix the strap but was dismayed by the job he did when she returned to pick it up.
Both the cobbler and his wife were unapologetic when the customer complained about the dodgy work saying the man ‘tried the best he could’.
Many thought the mix-up was hilarious and slammed the repairman’s efforts while others were less sympathetic and sceptical as to whether the bag was a real Louis Vuitton purse in the first place.
Reality: A handbag lover has been left shocked by the ‘mess’ a cobbler made of her Louis Vuitton purse when she asked him to repair the strap
‘Purse strap was broken, so I took it to a cobbler to fix. ‘Oh yeah, I can fix that.’,’ the handbag lover wrote in a post to the What I Asked For VS What I Got Facebook page.
Instead of a small leather loop stitched to the purse to hold the strap in place, the cobbler has punched two crooked rivets into a roughly cut and unstained leather strip to attach the handle.
The woman, from Pittsburgh in the US, has since taken the bag to Louis Vuitton to see if they could fix it however they refused as she bought it second hand and does not have a receipt.
She said she’s thankful for not paying full price for the purse now it’s been ruined.
‘When I complained, the cobbler’s wife texted me that he did the best he could and was just trying to help me out,’ she added.

The post attracted a flurry of attention with many sharing their shock at the cobbler’s not-so-handy work.
‘If that’s the best the man can do, he needs to retire. That’s a disgrace. He didn’t even do it straight,’ one user said.
‘It’s not even trimmed evenly and the hardware isn’t in straight. If he’s a cobbler and that’s his best, he needs to find a new profession,’ a second agreed.

‘Literally jaw DROPPED,’ laughed a third and a fourth wrote: ‘Yikes, would have been better off with super glue’.
However, not everyone thought the customer was in the right with one woman questioning if the bag was a genuine Louis Vuitton.
‘Was this real!? If so it could be sent in to Louis Vuitton, looking at stitching alone it doesn’t look real,’ she noted.
Others stuck up for the cobbler and said the woman should have researched the right place to take her bag to get fixed.
‘ALWAYS ask for examples of past work to see what their capabilities are. With any type of repairs or work. And definitely research prior to paying for a service,’ she said.
‘Might not be aesthetically pleasing for you but he did his job. Maybe you should have gone to someone who works with leather and picked a piece that matches,’ someone chimed in.
‘If you had said I want it to look exactly like it did before, maybe it would have been done differently but you maybe went in and just asked if he could fix this.. and viola, it’s fixed.’
