A 50p coin has sold on eBay for an eye-watering amount of money.

It was released in 2009 as part of a Blue Peter contest, where Florence Jackson, nine, drew an athlete doing the high jump.

The change was then printed onto the 50p coins which was issued ahead of the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
Around 20,000 coins were produced, although they were never officially put into circulation but many did enter transactions.
The coins originally sold for £1.09, but they're worth a lot more with some going for around £286 on eBay, reports the Liverpool Echo.
One seller received a huge £225.01, after attracting 17 different bids, with the sale price jumping considerably when it started at £9.99.
It was sold on June 19 and listed as a "rare uncirculated Blue Peter winner's edition 50p coin pack 2009".
And if you find one of these coins, you should check the year on it.

The second edition of the coin was minted 2011.

It was created by Christopher Le Brun and features the famous Chinese Pagoda at Kew when it was released in 2009.
Due to its scarcity, finding a Kew Gardens 50p coin in your change is like winning the lottery as many want to get their hands on one.
Experts often tell Brits to check their pockets just in case they have a coin hiding away in their wallets.
