When my husband died with cancer, you helped me through | The Sun
DEAR DEIDRE: WHEN my husband died suddenly from cancer, after being told he was fine by the hospital just weeks before, I didn’t know where to turn.
Deeply in shock and feeling very alone, I needed answers and support – and felt everyone had abandoned me.
I’m just 53, none of my friends understood what I was going through. My husband was only 55 when he died.
I wrote to you, because I needed someone to listen to me. I was depressed, unable to eat or sleep and I felt I’d lost my purpose.
You suggested I join Way Up (way-up.co.uk), a support group for widowed men and women aged 52 to 65.
You also sent me your support pack on Bereavement, which told me how to get counselling.

DEIDRE SAYS: For help with my medical questions, you recommended I contact PALS (Patient Advice and Liaison Service) at the hospital.
I have started a course of grief counselling and am being helped by PALS to access my partner’s medical notes.
Although it’s a long road, I do feel like life has a point again.
Thank you for being there.
I hope you get the answers you need about your late husband’s care, and that the counselling helps you to move forward.
