Why Black Friday’s the time to be bold…
- There has been a frenzy of Black Friday sales clogging up inboxes for weeks
- Frankie Graddon says that there is a technique for taking advantage of offers
- UK-based fashion and shopping expert explains that you should hone in on wardrobe staples such as cashmere knits and black blazers
Should you already be sick of Black Friday, I wouldn’t blame you. With the frenzy of sale season seemingly starting earlier each year (my inbox has been clogged for weeks), it’s easy to feel disenchanted.
However, as a fashion and shopping expert, I promise that taking advantage of the current offers is a seriously smart wardrobe move — if you get the technique right.
The typical sales strategy is to hone in on wardrobe staples. You can’t go wrong with those cashmere knits, black blazers etc, that hold together every outfit. However, these rules don’t apply when it comes to Black Friday. Brands tend not to discount bestsellers, so it’s unlikely you’ll be able to snap up that Burberry trench coat at 50 per cent off.
There are exceptions. Jigsaw has discounts on a selection of chic winter coats, while the John Lewis boot offering is worth taking a look at for a good selection of classic styles up to 30 per cent off. But for truly savvy Black Friday buys, it pays to think in terms of bolder fashion statements. Think of it as the perfect opportunity to discover you were a fuchsia person all along.

With the party season approaching, my Black Friday go-to is evening wear. The shops are stuffed with stand-out pieces. I have a pair of Loeffler Randall silver platforms in my virtual basket with more than £100 off which will see me through the festive season.
The other category to consider is jewellery as it’s seasonless. Go big on bling (try Mango with up to 50 per cent off) or stock up on earrings and pendants from the likes of Astrid & Miyu, which has 25 per cent off the entire website. And if the urge to splurge takes over, fear not. Simply wrap up your buys and stick them under the tree as a gift-to-self. This way, you won’t be disappointed come Christmas.
