THE Queen has died at the age of 96, marking an end to her historic reign.
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was Britain's longest-reigning monarch, having been on the throne for 70 years.
Preparations are now underway for the Queen’s state funeral, which will take place at Westminster Abbey 10 days after her passing.
However the day of the funeral has not been officially declared a bank holiday.
If the funeral falls on a weekday, the government does not plan to order employers to give employees the day off.
This leaves a question over what will close, and what will remain open, on the day.
Will banks close on the day of Queen Elizabeth II's funeral?
Banks and the London Stock Exchange will close if a public or bank holiday is declared for England and Wales.
On Thursday, the London Stock Exchange Group said: “We are deeply saddened at the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
“Our sympathies and condolences are with the royal family.”

Will shops close on the day of Queen Elizabeth II's funeral?
Most companies are expected to continue operations as normal, but some shops may chose to close as a sign of respect.
If the day is declared a bank holiday, then retailers may choose to operate reduced opening hours.
Historic department store chain Selfridges closed its doors the day after the Queen's death.
The funeral service will be led by the Archbishop of Canterbury and will be attended by the Royal Family, politicians and heads of state from across the globe.

At midday on that day, there will be two minutes’ silence across the nation.
It is understood that the funeral will be held on September 19, but it has not been confirmed by the Palace yet.

As with shops, it is down to pubs and restaurants as to whether they close during the nation's period of mourning.
However, it is expected that many will remain open so people can gather to remember the monarch.
