While Twitter was whipping itself into a frenzy over his “Saturday Night Live” monologue, Woody Harrelson was having a perfectly nice night out with pals including Scarlett Johansson.
The “True Detective” star gave a kooky performance at the beginning of his fifth appearance as “SNL” host, telling a story about a (presumably non-existent) script that told the story of a ring of drug cartels that coordinated their efforts to force citizens to stay in their homes unless they took their wares.
While his slightly stumbling delivery made it hard to discern the point, the story was widely received as a parable of COVID skepticism.
While internet commenters fumed, Harrelson — famously a 9/11 truther who has called 5G pandemic conspiracy theories “interesting” on social media — seemed to have put the matter behind him by the time he got to the after party at L’Avenue at Saks.
A source tells us they didn’t hear anyone bring up the monologue at the swanky venue.
“Party guests were mostly congratulating Woody and [the night’s musical guest] Jack White on their entrance to the ‘Five Timers Club,” says the spy, referring to the show’s name for guests who have hosted five times.
A source tells us Harrelson, who was there with his wife Laura Louie and one of his daughters, was spotted chatting up “Weekend Update” host Colin Jost and wife, Scarlett Johansson.
Harrelson and Johansson are starring together in the upcoming film, “Project Artemis.” We hear Harrelson was wearing a hat promoting the movie.
Former “Zombieland” co-star Emma Stone and Justin Theroux, who stars with Harreslon in HBO’s upcoming, “White House Plumbers,” also attended.
We’re told Harreslon had such a good time, he, Jost and Johansson shut down the party at 4am.
Meanwhile, musical guest White was seen “canoodling” his wife Olivia Jean Markel and “looking very much in love,” says a spy.
Musician Cat Power was also seen hanging out with the pair.
And over at another table, “SNL” big Lorne Michaels was seen chatting with his pal, tennis star John McEnroe.
Cast members Michael Che, Bowen Yang, Heidi Gardner, Sarah Sherman, Ego Nwodim, Marcello Hernandez, James Austin Johnson, Molly Kearney, Michael Longfellow and Devon Walker also attended.
