On Monday’s instalment of Lorraine, fill-in host Christine Lampard spoke to former Strictly star Aljaz Skorjanec and his wife Janette Manrara. During their chat, they spoke about Kaye Adams and Kai Widdrington being the first couple to leave the competition as Alijaz admitted it’s tough to see anyone leave.

Last Sunday viewers tuned in to watch the 15 stars competing in this year’s series of Strictly Come Dancing face the public vote for the first time.

As there was no elimination in the first week, scores from week one and two determined the leaderboard which was then combined with the results of the viewers’ votes.

This then determined which two couples scored the lowest overall as viewers saw Loose Women’s Kaye Adams and Kai lose out on their place against singer Matt Goss and Nadiya Bychkova.

Speaking about the competition, along with the first exit of the series, ITV host Christine Lampard spoke to Aljaz to get his thoughts on Strictly now that he’s a viewer.

Highlighting that Strictly was such a big part of his life, as he first joined back in 2013, Christine questioned if he now finds it weird not being part of it.

Aljaz replied: “It was a weird thing, especially to be at home and be free on a Saturday and a Sunday! It was a bit odd.

“But watching the show, it was such a brilliant show. I think everyone did great on Strictly last week and it’s always tough to see anybody go.

“Especially I think Kai! Last year not being able to compete in the final and now you know, I think it’s really tricky.”

Last series of Strictly Come Dancing saw Kai and his celeb partner Aj Odudu impress judges Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Shirley Ballas and Anton Du Beke all the way to the final.

However, during training the week prior AJ suffered a torn ligament in her right ankle which forced them to drop out of the show.

At the time, the professional dancer said it had been an honour to dance with AJ but highlighted that her health and safety were the most important thing.

In the end, it was Rose Ayling-Ellis and Giovanni Pernice who took home the championship in 2021 with John Whaite and Johannes Radebe coming in second place.

Sadly for Kai, he’ll miss out on a place in the final once again this series.

Kaye and Kai failed to impress Motsi, Craig and Anton with their Charleston routine as they all chose to save Matt instead.

Although head judge Shirley confessed that if she had got to cast her vote, she would have picked Kaye and Kai instead.

When it was revealed the duo were leaving the competition, the Loose Women star revealed she was sorry for Kai as she called him brilliant.

Hearing her disappointment on the night of their elimination, Kai commented: “For this woman to come out and give the performance that she did tonight really shows the testament to her character.

“I am proud of you, I know that your girls and your other half are proud of you. The most important thing is that you should be proud of yourself, because you are a superstar.”

Next week, it’s been revealed that the remaining 14 stars will be taking part in movie week where their routines will be inspired by popular flicks.

Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday, October 8 on BBC One at 6:30pm with the results show on Sunday, October 9 at 7:20pm on BBC One.
