America's Got Talent star Zuri Craig dies aged 44
America’s Got Talent star Zuri Craig has died at the age of 44.
His family announced the news in a statement on Instagram, writing: ‘It is with profound sadness that we announce the transition of our beloved son, brother and friend, Zuri Craig.’
They continued: ‘We thank you in advance for your prayers. Please honor our privacy at this unimaginable time of mourning.’
The post was captioned: ‘Please keep our family and friends in your prayers. More info forthcoming… 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 #RIPZuriCraig.’
His cause of death has not been confirmed.
Craig appeared on AGT in 2015 with his singing partner Jeffrey Lewis, with the pair stunning the judges with their audition to James Brown’s This Is A Man’s World.
Later on in the series, they covered Mary J Blige’s I’m Goin’ Down and earned a golden buzzer from judge Michael Buble after an astonishing performance.
The duo placed fifth overall in the series.
Before appearing on AGT, Craig collaborated with Perry on some of his Madea plays, including Madea’s Big Happy Family, Madea Gets a Job and A Madea Christmas.
Craig was also due to begin a live production, Soul Food Live, next month in Atlanta.
In his final Instagram post, shared two weeks ago, he shared the poster featuring the cast of the play, urging fans: ‘Get your tix now!’
Heartbroken fans have paid tribute, with one commenting on Craig’s family’s post: ‘My condolences 💐,’ and another adding: ‘Praying for you all!!❤️’.
