British quizzer Anne Hegerty, 64, went into the jungle back in 2018, alongside the likes of The Inbetweeners star Emily Atack, Doctor Who actor John Barrowman, TV presenter Noel Edmonds, and X Factor singer Fleur East. Although Anne didn’t win the ITV reality series, her stint in the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! camp saw her come in seventh place. Instead, it was former football manager Harry Redknapp who was crowned the King of the Jungle.

Nonetheless, Anne’s time on the show did raise her profile and earned her new fans outside of the teatime quiz show The Chase.

Reflecting on why she took part in the ITV reality series, Anne said: “Well, they also mentioned ridiculous amounts of money and they made it sound easier than it actually turned out to be.”

But it appears Anne is very happy to leave behind the camp and a diet of rice and beans.

“So, yeah, I wouldn’t do I’m A Celeb again but I’m glad to have done it. I’m glad to have it under my belt,” she said.

Anne went on to say: “It did result in an increase in exposure and an increase in opportunities.

“But the most important thing about I’m A Celeb is that I met these brilliant people that I’m still friends with and still in touch with, which is the point.”

She added: “Plus the enormous amount of money, that’s nice.”

Anne also spoke about some of the everyday challenges of I’m A Celeb: “Things like just simply trying to get used to the actual surroundings.

“I was never even thinking about how I was coming across to the public, I was just thinking about, ‘How do I find a flat place to put my contact lens case down and how do I actually have a wash everyday?’ and things like that.

“I was just simply too busy focusing on really quite basic things like that.”

Would Anne ever consider appearing on BBC reality series Strictly Come Dancing?

“I don’t think so. I was asked earlier this year and I thought, ‘No, I don’t want to do that’,” she explained.

“They were mentioning preposterous amounts of money but honestly I’m glad the idea fell through because it would be about six months out of my life, it would be exhausting, I wouldn’t enjoy it.

“It’s not something I’m interested in doing. So, no, I really don’t think so.”

Anne said she had been keeping an eye on the show, along with other reality TV series, in case a question came up on The Chase.

But she admitted she’d not been following it too closely as she’d been busy working.

However, she did have her hopes pinned on her former I’m A Celebrity campmate lifting the Glitterball Trophy: “It would be lovely if Fleur won because she’s my friend.”

Anne is now busy working on The Chase with the cast filming new episodes of the quiz.

The cast is also going to be shooting episodes of spin-off series Beat The Chasers in the new year, following on from their win at the National Television Awards for best Quiz Game Show.

She is also going to be appearing in a pantomime production of Beauty and the Beast in Swindon next month.

Anne will be taking on the role of Fairy Flutterby in the play at the Wyvern Theatre.

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! continues on ITV tonight at 9pm
