Ashley Banjo cheekily told he ‘can’t dance’ by Pride of Britain winner in funny moment
Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Award winner Jill Allen-King joked that Ashley Banjo, who is best know for being a part of the Britain's Got Talent winning dance troupe Diversity, 'can't dance'.
Jill received the Lifetime Achievement Award for her work in helping those who are visually impaired, which includes herself.
She was the person who suggested a textured surface by road crossings so that visually impaired people knew where it was safe to cross the road, for which she was awarded an MBE.
Introducing Jill, Ashley, 34, spoke of her incredible achievements before adding: "Jill, I found out recently that we’re neighbours, talking of sunny Southend in Essex your house is just down the road from my dance studio.”
"Yes, it is," she replied, adding "and I was horrified last night," and when asked what she was horrified about, she hilariously quipped: "You can’t dance."
As the audience laughed, Ashley put his hands to his face and shocked the audience by saying: "I can’t dance, no, right."
Clarifying what they meant, he continued: "What Jill means is that I can’t do ballroom Latin to save my life."
Asking Jill to teach him, the pair began to attempt the Cha Cha Cha, with Ashley asking her to "go easy on me."
To which she responded with: "No, why should I?" receiving yet another laugh from the audience.
“I can only apologise, Jill for that, but how would you rate me? What do you score me out of 10?” the Britain’s Got Talent winner asked her.
“Well, I couldn’t see what you were doing,” she said, earning yet another laugh.
TV host Paul O’Grady then presented Jill with her award, with her asking: "Do you want to learn to dance as well?"
Paul, 67, congratulated her on the win, joking that perhaps she should be prime minister, adding that they'll probably be a vacancy in a few weeks.
Leader of the Opposition Keir Starmer, who was sat in the audience, could be seen chuckling at these remarks.
The Pride of Britain Awards took place on Monday 24 October, with the ceremony airing on ITV this evening.
The ceremony was hosted by Ashley and former Countdown presenter Carol Vorderman
Prior to the event Carol, 61, shared that she and her co-host would be taking a sustainable approach to their choice of outfit, both wearing old and up-cycled clothes.
