Awkward moment BBC guest doesn’t recognise Andy Murray after sweet message
BBC Breakfast: Andy Murray sends sweet message to nine-year-old
Aspiring tennis player Joanie “didn’t recognise” tennis legend Andy Murray who had filmed a sweet message for her on Thursday’s BBC Breakfast, leaving fans cringing.
Host Naga Munchetty was keen to know who Joanie’s favourite tennis star was, with the youngster exclaiming she looked up to Emma Raducanu.
“What about any of the guys?” Naga asked to which Joanie pulled a face and replied: “Bleh.”
“Well that’s going to make the next moment a little bit awkward, but very very funny,” Naga shared. “I want you to look at this screen over here, you see that monitor under camera three?”
“Someone very special has sent you a message, don’t say, ‘Bleh’ about it until after you come off Breakfast. This is for you.”
Former world number one Andy said: “Hi Joanie I just wanted to say congratulations on winning your first tennis tournament, keep up the good work.”
After watching the clip back, Joanie didn’t appear to recognise Andy so Naga had to explain who he was.
“That was Andy Murray,” Naga shared to which Joanie replied: “Wait – what?”
They showed Joanie the clip again and she quipped: “So maybe I do like men!”

Joanie always dreamed of playing tennis, but she was born with a left arm that was not fully developed, which meant she initially struggled to throw the ball up to serve.
But thanks to a new prosthetic arm the nine-year-old can play her favourite sport and has recently won her first-ever tennis tournament.
When Naga asked the youngster why she loved tennis so much, she said she enjoyed being part of a sport where she could be independent.
BBC Breakfast airs daily on BBC One between 6am and 9.15am.
