Bake Off’s final 4 decided after fans slam latest technical ‘that isn’t baking’
Maxy is the latest baker to exit The Great British Bake Off, leaving the well-loved cooking show with it's four semi-finalists.
Speaking after she became the eighth contestant to leave the show, Maxy said: "I can't believe it. I had a bad, bad week. I knew it was coming but I was hoping my showstopper would save me.
"It's really sad to go but I'm happy. I'm proud to have made it this far."
This week marked GBBO's traditional Pastry Week, which is often dreaded by the contestants due to its level of difficulty.
After the bakers made Vol-au-vents for their first challenge, viewers were left confused when they were tasked with making spring rolls for the technical – a dish that arguably involves no actual baking.
"Another week, another challenge that isn't baking," tweeted one viewer, as another echoed similar sentiments writing: "Why has so many challenges on this series seem more like cooking than baking?"
"Spring rolls? On the Great British BAKE Off," penned another, while a fourth agreed saying: "Not exactly baking #GBBO."
Their comments come after this season has seen bakers also tasked with making tacos and pizzas; something which one GBBO fan quipped on Twitter that former Bake Off judge Mary Berry "would NEVER have allowed to happen".
Maxy's exit this evening follows Kevin's last week after he failed to impress the judges on Custard Week.
Speaking about his exit from the show following the announcement, Kevin said he was "nothing but pleased" at how far he'd come, adding: "The imposter syndrome is real, coming into this competition I didn't feel like I deserved a place. I feel I can count myself as one of this talented bunch.”
He continued: “I don’t have any huge baking ambitions, but I have an open heart to whatever may come next. What I will take away from my experience on Bake Off is a good story to tell in 10 years. And a ragtag group of friends for life.”
While Kevin and Maxy didn't make it to the semi-final, one person who did by the skin of his teeth is fan-favourite Sandro.
When he’s not baking to his heart’s content, Sandro works as a nanny in London, where he introduces his calming and charming personality to the next generation.
Dazzling many fans at home with his big heart and soft spot for children, Sandro supports children of all ages and from all walks of life with his special workshops and lessons for disabled children, particularly those on the autistic spectrum.
He often refers to the kids he cares for on the show, including this evening with his children's book-inspired bake based on The Hungry Caterpillar, which he says he often reads to them.
