BBC Breakfast’s Charlie Stayt was presenting the programme from Westminster Hall on Saturday where Queen Elizabeth II is lying in state for the third full day. As thousands of people queue to get into the hall and pay their respects, Charlie spoke with Erin Thompson who had the pleasure of being invited to Her Majesty’s funeral on Monday
Whilst speaking about the momentous day in history, Charlie had to cut their interview show due to technical issues with the sound.
Charlie began: “Let’s talk a little more about events on Monday, the funeral itself. Among the dignitaries and world leaders in attendance at the Queen’s funeral, 200 people were named in her birthday honours.
“Dr Erin Thompson was awarded an MBE for her work with bereaved families, particularly those who have lost loved ones to cancer and she joins us this morning.
“Very good morning to you, what a pleasure it is to speak to you and you are one of those who will be at the funeral on Monday, how did you find out and how are you feeling?”
Erin admitted: “I got a phone call last weekend letting me know that I was invited to pay tribute. I was one of the few people invited.
“To pay your respects is a magical thing [and] to do it in person, it is quite special and I feel very honoured.”
Charlie continued: “You have probably seen the images from Westminster of people and the atmosphere around.
“This in a way, the build-up to the occasion is quite remarkable. What do you know about the event itself? We know of course there will be so many world leaders coming in.
“So many dignitaries, so what do you know about how it will be and have you got a picture in your head of what it will be like to be there?”
“I probably know as much as you, other than where to arrive,” Erin explained, however, throughout her explanation, Erin’s sound continued to drop in and out.
Noticing the issue, Charlie was forced to cut the interview short and revealed: “Dr Erin Thompson, it has been lovely talking to you.
“I should just say we are not speaking to you longer only because we are having one or two problems with the link to you.
“We can see you perfectly, but we can’t hear you terribly well, I just wish you all the best! If we can’t speak to you again I wish you all the best for Monday.

“Congratulations on the work which is all to do with bereavement, so thank you very much for your time this morning.”
Among the many dignitaries and Royal members attending the funeral, Her Majesty relied on many of her closest staff members, such as her ladies-in-waiting and footmen who will most likely be in attendance.
Nearly 200 people recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in June this year have been invited to attend the Queen’s state funeral on Monday, Downing Street has said.
Her children, King Charles III, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward will all be in attendance with their respective spouses, including Andrew’s ex-wife Sarah Ferguson.
Her Majesty met countless world leaders during her 70-year reign and many of these politicians will attend her state funeral.
These guests include recently appointed Prime Minister Liz Truss, US president Joe Biden, French president Emmanuel Macron and Prime Minster of Ireland Michael Martin.
Former US presidents Donald Trump and Barak Obama have not received an invitation.
Olena Zelensky, wife of the Ukrainian president Volodymyr, is thought to be in attendance while her husband stays at home amid the continued war with Russia.
