BBC star breaks down in tears as she announces Harry Grations sudden death

BBC Yorkshire presenter Amy Garcia broke down in tears while announcing the tragic death of her former co-star Harry Gration on Friday evening (June 24).

The BBC Look North legend died "suddenly" on Friday at the age of 71, and Amy had the tough job of sharing the news with viewers.

Speaking live on location from Wakefield, the tearful presenter said: "As we close the programme tonight, I have some very sad news to share with you all.

"Our much loved friend and colleague Harry Gration suddenly died today.

"We all at Look North are absolutely devastated to give you this news."

The clip, which saw Amy in tears, went viral on social media as viewers reacted to the sad news and shared their support for her and own tributes to Harry.

One person said: "Aww poor Amy, what a terribly hard thing to have to do. Well done for delivering it as well as you did through the shock. RIP Harry."

Another said: "What a heartbreaking news report for her to have to do."

A third wrote: "Oh dear, poor woman having to talk about a dear friend of hers on air, very sad!"

Someone else tweeted: "Oh that's made me cry. Poor Amy but well done in keeping it together. RIP Harry."

And another added: "Heartbreaking but Amy did it for her great friend."

The sad news of Harry's passing was confirmed on Friday evening, with BBC Yorkshire tweeting: "Our much loved friend and colleague Harry Gration died suddenly today. We are absolutely heartbroken to give you this news.

"Tonight our hearts go out to Harry's wife Helen, their children and all of Harry's family and friends."

Former BBC Breakfast star Dan Walker was among those paying tribute.

He said on Twitter: "Harry would often call to talk and once, I'd been hammered in the press for something, he called with the kindest and most helpful words of encouragement. He cared. He was brilliant to work with, wonderful to watch and just a true gentleman. He will be missed by many."

Harry stepped down from Look North in October 2020 after more than 40 years at the BBC.

He said at the time: "For the past four decades, it's been a privilege to meet the people of the county I love. Make no mistake, these good folk are the heartbeat of the programme."
