Beyond Paradise takes place six years after DI Goodman (played by Kris Marshall) and Martha Lloyd (Sally Bretton) left the sunny island of Saint Marie as they start a new life in the Devonshire countryside. Despite the clear climate difference between the BBC shows, actor Jamie Bamber revealed the cast of the Death in Paradise spin-off still had their fair share of sunshine.
The six-part series made its debut last month with fans thrilled to see Humphrey Goodman and Martha Lloyd back on their screens once again along with the introduction of new characters.
One of which includes Martha’s ex-fiance Archie Hughes (Jamie Bamber) who has made it clear he still has feelings for the cafe owner after her return to the fictional Devonshire town Shipton Abbot.
Although the detective has swapped the sandy beaches of the Caribbean for the cobbled streets of the South West, it seemed as though the actor brought the sunshine back with him when filming the BBC spin-off.
When speaking to Express.co.uk, actor Jamie touched on the heatwave the actors had to endure when shooting in Devon and Cornwall.
The 49-year-old said: “We had a ridiculously hot summer. A lot of the scenes, if you’d seen the rehearsals, Kris Marshall is always in a singlet (vest) or half naked trying not to sweat and ruin the clothes.
“I know exactly what that’s like, I spent most of last year working in the South of France and Barcelona wearing suits in full summer.
“It’s quite stressful as an actor as you’re trying to preserve the look of the character.
“But, you know that you can only wear that stuff for about five minutes before the face starts streaming. So there were challenges like that, and then it started raining!
Currently, Jamie’s character has found himself trying to put a wedge between Humphrey and Martha after offering to help her with her cafe.
Realising his ex-fiance was struggling to get the capital for her cafe, Archie suggested he join her as a partner.
Speaking about his character’s intentions, Jamie added: “I don’t think Archie’s a bad guy for not proposing an alternative solution, but for being there.
“He’s confident in his work but in his personal life, Archie sees someone who prevaricates a bit and thinks, ‘Well, maybe he’s not right for Martha, maybe there’s another outcome.’
“It’s not a given, they’re not married and there’s nothing else at stake, so I don’t think he’s a bad guy.”

Viewers are set to see Martha make an impending decision on her future with Humphrey in an upcoming episode.
A synopsis reads: “Reports of strange lights in the sky above North Farm lead ramblers to a newly appeared crop circle where they find an unidentified man’s body.
“Humphrey finds himself at pains to suppress conspiracy theorists speculating alien involvement while methodically pursuing the case.
“Meanwhile, Martha’s restaurant is reviewed by an influential food critic as she misses an important IVF appointment and makes an important decision regarding plans to start a family.”
Beyond Paradise continues Fridays on BBC One from 8pm.
