Blue Bloods has been airing on CBS since 2010 and it follows the Reagan family, who work in law enforcement. Tom Selleck will be making a comeback as Commissioner Frank Reagan in the series, which continues to dominate CBS ratings. Express.co.uk has all you need to know about what time the new season will kick off.

What time is Blue Bloods season 13 on?

The long-running police drama has been a solid performer in America, having aired on Friday evenings since it began.

Kelly Kahl, president of CBS Entertainment, dubbed the Reagans “America’s favourite first family of law enforcement”.

After the series was renewed for another outing, she said: “The Reagans possess an incredible bond with audiences literally everywhere and on every platform.

“In its 12th season, with over 250 episodes, Blue Bloods not only continues to dominate in the ratings but excels at an exceptionally high creative level.”

Season 13 will continue to air in the usual time slot of 10pm Eastern Time/Pacific Time on CBS.

The remaining episodes will continue to air weekly on Fridays in the same time slot.

Titles for the first three episodes have been revealed and they are Keeping the Faith, First Blush and Ghosted.

The synopsis for the premiere episode reads: “The job takes a dangerous turn for the Reagans when Eddie (Vanessa Ray) and Jamie (Will Estes) deal with a domestic violence case associated with an investigation led by Danny and Baez.

“Also, Frank and his friend, Archbishop Kearns (Stacy Keach), go on a mission to avail themselves to an unfiltered look at the city; and Erin (Bridget Moynahan) is presented with a surprising offer by her ex-husband, Jack Boyle (Peter Hermann), regarding her run for District Attorney.”

Stacy Keach returns as Archbishop Kearns, with Will Hochman guest starring as Joe Hill and Peter Hermann guest starring as Erin’s ex-husband Jack Boyle.

Showrunner Kevin Wade explained why the series has continued to be so popular after more than a decade.

Speaking to TV Line he said: “We have a prescribed thing that we do, for which I think the technical term is ‘a closed-end procedural.’

“So we don’t tell serialized stories, we don’t have cliffhangers, we don’t replace cast members.

“Many of the tools that long-running shows have, very much to our credit or to whatever, we don’t have at our disposal, so we try to work with what we have.”

He said the show’s aim was to tell fresh stories with new angles.

Season 13 will continue to try to find another layer to the existing characters, giving the actors something new to sink their teeth into.

The season premiere will prove how there is little trust from the public in any institution anymore, and the stories will show both sides of the coin.

Wade added: “Nobody is tuning in on Friday night at 10 o’clock to be taught a lesson or lectured on what the right point of view is.

“So when we try to address issues that have two very vocal sides to them, we try to build a soap box of equal dimensions for the, let’s call it, ‘antagonistic’ point of view.”

The official Twitter account for the series shared a short teaser video saying: “Some things are going to start to change around here.

“Don’t miss the season premiere of #BlueBloods Friday, October 7.”

The clip shows Jamie declaring he no longer wishes to be “the quiet one”, as he adds: “I’m the quiet one, I’m the careful one, I’m the one who will just stand by and watch as the whole justice system falls apart, because what’s the point in getting upset if there’s just no one to blame?”

Fans will have to wait and see how Jamie and his family deal with the new trials and tribulations the series has to offer.
