Celebrity Gogglebox has a lot of the same hallmarks as its regular cousin.

People sit in front of the shows of the day and comment, crack jokes, and generally enjoy the box, all for the entertainment of another set of people also watching TV.

Meta indeed, and the wackiness is only taken further by filling the seats with famous faces, an opportunity to see stars comfortable, relaxed, unscripted and in their own homes.

The show is as much a peek into the lives of celebrities themselves as it is about reacting to the telly, an opportunity to see how they receive a joke you might have liked or deal with a character you did not.

But as with so many things in life, the world of celebrity moves in a slightly different way to the one the rest of us live in.

How much cash celebrities on Gogglebox get has been something of a mystery, but now it has been revealed that they get £2,000 per episode.

This means that, according to the Sun, some pairs of viewers could take home £12,000 for a six-episode series – that’s a serious payday just for watching telly.

They also reportedly get all their snacks and bites to eat expensed.

As one of Channel 4’s most popular shows, Gogglebox’s bizarre formula, watching the watcher, has gone on to make it a household name.

Twenty-five series in and with millions of viewers a week, it continues to be one of the top shows in the UK, with 13 TV awards to its name.

It is thought that a regular family on Gogglebox takes home a tasty £1,500 a month for their TV-watching endeavours. A tidy sum for sitting down, putting your feet up and cracking a few jokes about the latest telly.

However, it is significantly less than the – likely already quite wealthy – celebrities get paid.

They also get a free takeaway to dive into while they enjoy their show – a decent deal indeed.

They even get to choose what the takeaway is to keep them tuned in during long sessions in front of the camera – usually two lots of six hours.
