Channel 4 set to air 1953 documentary in place of showing The Queen’s funeral

Channel 4 have announced that they will be airing a special documentary on the day of The Queen's funeral.

The schedule change will include the 1953 documentary A Queen Is Crowned which shows the day of Queen Elizabeth II's coronations.

The state funeral will be aired across BBC and ITV concurrently.

The broadcaster has also announced that they will be airing two extended editions of Channel 4 News as well as the 1943 Vera Lynn film We'll Meet Again.

A Channel 4 spokesman said: "On the day Britain says farewell to its longest serving monarch, Channel 4 will be airing A Queen Is Crowned, the classic 1953 documentary about her coronation, so that viewers can experience both the beginning and end of her remarkable reign.

"Following the service, Channel 4 will also broadcast two extended editions of Channel 4 News as well as the 1943 Vera Lynn film, We'll Meet Again."

On Monday (September 19) the broadcaster will also join in the two minutes silence that will take place when the funeral ends just before noon.

From 8:30pm onwards the channel will be back to normal showing Jamie's One Pan Wonders, First Dates and Walter Presents: Sisterhood.

The Queen sadly passed away last Thursday (September 8) and her funeral is set to take place on Monday.

It has been announced that The Queen will be buried next to her beloved husband The Duke of Edinburgh in a private service.

The state funeral will take place at 11am and will end just before midday.

Lots of people are expected to be in attendance, including world leaders and foreign royals, who will gather in the capital to say their final farewells to the UK's longest reigning monarch.

The end of the funeral will see the Last Post and a two-minute silence, followed by the national anthem.

People across the country and commonwealth are urged to join in as The Queen is put to rest.

There will then be a procession from the Abbey to Wellington Arch before the Queen's coffin is taken in a hearse to Windsor for the committal service at 4pm.

Her Majesty will then be buried in a private ceremony in Windsor Castle's King George VI Chapel at 7.30pm, alongside the Duke of Edinburgh.

The state funeral for Her Majesty The Queen will be aired on both BBC and ITV on Monday the 19th September.
