Chas and Paddy reconnected by baby loss grief amid Mack and Chloe in Emmerdale
Emmerdale’s Chas (Lucy Pargeter) and Paddy (Dominic Brunt) may be heading for divorce, but they will be forever united by their children, especially through the loss of baby Grace.
Losing a child is the worst possible thing that can happen to a parent and Paddy and Chas frequently come together to remember their late daughter.
Their minds are cast straight to her when some terrible news filters through the village.
The inhabitants of Emmerdale learn that poor baby Reuben is in hospital facing a battle for his life against possible bacterial meningitis, and the unfairness hits home for Chas and Paddy, whose hearts go out to new mum Chloe (Jessie Elland).
Grace died just 29 minutes after being born having been diagnosed with Bilateral Renal Agenesis – a condition where the kidneys do not develop.
Though they knew she was ill and would not survive, there was nothing that could prepare them for the grief that has followed.
So the couple know all too well the pain that Chloe could be facing and it breaks their hearts. It brings the separated pair together once again in a moment of shared pain that no one else around them truly understands.
But with Paddy recently having made it clear that there is nothing more between them, the feelings stop at merely support.
Despite the time that has passed things are no less raw for Paddy, and he’s showered in grief once more when he visits Grace’s tree as he tries to deal with the emotions over Reuben. Will he be able to cope with this fresh round of pain?
