Chris Harrison Insists He’s Not Mad at Kaitlyn Bristowe for Replacing Him as ‘The Bachelorette’ Host
The TV presenter, who exited the franchise in 2021 after 19 years, sets the record straight on his and Kaitlyn’s friendship after she said their relationship ‘went down the toilet.’
AceShowbiz –Chris Harrison has set the record straight on his friendship with Kaitlyn Bristowe. Though he acknowledged that their relationship has changed, the TV presenter insisted that he is not mad at his pal for replacing him as “The Bachelorette” host.
“Instead of getting mad, or even disappointed, which I’m not, I was saddened that a friend of mine was mourning the loss of our friendship and that that friendship had changed,” Chris said on “The Most Dramatic Podcast Ever”. He added, “And yes, to a certain degree, it did change.”
“I called you that morning and we talked a little bit, and you made the statements that you were going to make, and we talked about that and I supported you,” he recalled. “[I] said look, ‘I totally understand. Do what you got to do. That this doesn’t affect us.’ “
While Chris and Kaitlyn didn’t talk after that conversation, he spoke to Tayshia Adams, who joined Kaitlyn in the hosting duty. “Someone on the inside of production had let me know that you guys were going to take over as mentors… While I was talking to Tayshia about something completely different, I did mention to her, like, ‘Oh hey, by the way, I do know this,'” he recounted.
“… Neither one of you had reached out… said, ‘Hey Chris, just know that they’re talking to me about this, we’re going to do this,’ ” he elaborated. “So while I was on the phone with her, I just brought it up myself and said, ‘No hard feelings for you and Kaitlyn, I am in no way angry. I’m in no way bitter. I don’t feel like you two stabbed me in the back.’ “
Chris, who exited the franchise in 2021 after 19 years, went on to note, “I would not expect either one of you to say, ‘I love Chris, he’s my friend. I’m turning down this job.’ ” He then continued, “Why would you turn down that opportunity when this had nothing to do with you? That’s all I said to her.”
Kaitlyn previously said in a January episode of “Not Skinny But Not Fat” podcast that her relationship with Chris “went down the toilet.” She disclosed, “They offered me the position to come in and what the Bachelor franchise said was to mentor [Katie Thurston].”
“[They said] I wouldn’t be replacing Chris. Then all these articles started coming out, saying, ‘Tayshia Adams and Kaitlyn Bristowe replacing Chris Harrison.’ And so I messaged Chris probably about 10 times without him responding,” Kaitly further alleged. “I just want him to know that I thought he was irreplaceable and I didn’t want to step on toes.”
“Then I was like ‘OK, he hates me.’ And we were best friends and now he hates me,” the 37-year-old lamented. “And then I saw him at [Wells Adams and Sarah Hyland‘s] wedding and I walked him to him and I was like, ‘I miss you,’ and he was like, ‘Well I’ve always been here.’ … So yeah, that was tough.”
