Coronation Concert turns awkward as BBC star suffers Nicole Scherzinger blunder

Scottish TV and radio presenter Kirsty Young stuttered saying Nicole Scherzinger's name when the camera quickly cut to footage of the royal family arriving at the coronation concert.

The BBC printer is hosting the concert and struggled to say the US pop star's name when the broadcaster was forced to cut her interview short.

When King Charles and Queen Camilla arrived Kirsty said: "There of course we see the arrival of their Majisties the King and Queen.

"There is not very much that could upstage Nicole Sherginer" She then hesitated and said: "you know who I mean."

Kirsty later on said sorry to Jordan Banjo who was interviewing Nicole at the time the King and Queen arrived.

She said: "Very sorry to cut you off in your prime there. I have to tell you it was all go here. Suddenly the King and Queen arrived and we all thought 'What, wait a minute'."

Jordan said: "If anyone was gonna cut my time off with Nicole Scherzinger it had to be the King and Queen. That's fine".

Kirsty joked: "I couldn't even say Nicole Scherzinger, never mind apologies for it".

Fans took to social media to comment on the BBC presenter's blunder.

One fan wrote: "Not the presenter pronouncing Nicole Scherzinger's name so horribly."

Another penned: " "Nicole Scherzinger or whatever her name is, dear me what a mess."

Whilst a third commented: "Did she say I can't even say, Nicole Scherzinger? She just did. Lol,"

A fourth tweeted: "Bit weird that she can't pronounce Nicole Scherzinger".

However, other fans thought that the blunder was hilarious and took to social media to share their amusement.

One fan said: "She can't say Nicole Scherzinger hahahaha."

The concert itself is being hosted by Downton Abbey and Paddington star Hugh Bonneville.

The show will see performances by Take That, Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, DJ Pete Tong, Paloma Faith, Olly Murs, veteran rock guitarist Steve Winwood, and Nicole singing Reflection from Mulan.

Presenter Zoe Ball was supposed to be presenting the show for BBC Radio 2but was forced to pull out at the last minute due to illness.

On Sunday morning, Ball tweeted: “Absolutely gutted… the sickness bug has got me. Was meant to be heading to Windsor Castle for the #coronationconcert on @BBCRadio2 later.

“@radioleary and @scott_mills have got you covered. I’m heading back to bed.”
