Coronation Street boss warns ‘everyone should be worried’ about Stephen’s next victim

Coronation Street boss, Iain MacLeod, has warned that "everyone should be worried" about cobbles murderer Stephen Reid's next victim on the hit ITV soap.

Viewers will recall that Stephen murdered Leo Thompkins last year and only recently tried to kill the latter's father, Teddy, in hospital after he was hit by a speeding van.

And Corrie boss, Iain, has now revealed that Stephen will be driven to "desperate acts over the next 12 months", warning "everyone should be worried".

Speaking to Metro, Iain added: "The whole cast is worried. Whenever I call an actor in for a chat they say, 'That’s it! Todd Boyce [who plays Stephen] is going to do me in!'

"I love Todd, someone once asked Alan Rickman if he liked playing villains and he very drily said, 'I don’t play villains, darling, I just play very interesting people'."

It comes as Iain teased a new upcoming "dark" storyline between murderer Stephen and Carla Connor.

The upcoming plot will see "psychological warfare" between Stephen and Carla at Underworld as the cobbles killer gets competitive with the latter.

Teasing what's next, Iain said: "Stephen sees his first step back on the ladder to the top of the international rag trade as getting a gig in Underworld and toppling current queen of the pile – Carla.

"Psychological warfare begins between those two, freighted with knowledge on the viewers part that Stephen’s killed someone, so when Carla belittles Stephen and makes him make the tea, undercutting him in front of the clients, she is unwittingly poking the hornet’s nest.

"At some point all the hornets do come out, but probably not in the way you expect."

He added: "If anyone predicts what Stephen does to Carla, I’ll eat my hat! His plan is so out there and dark that I’d be incredibly surprised if anyone spots it coming over the hill."
