Is Weatherfield a real place?
As much as ITV viewers may enjoy it, Weatherfield is a fictional town.
Known on screens as the cobbled haven for drama, heartbreak, betrayal and even murder, Weatherfield is actually based on Salford, located in Greater Manchester.
The town of Weatherfield has always been chosen to host Coronation Street's plotlines since the programme's inception in 1960.
However, this doesn't mean Corrie enthusiasts don't have the opportunity to take a trip to the cobbles as the MediaCityUK site is open to visitors as of March, 2022.
Much like other TV sets, Weatherfield was closed to members of the public due to the Covid pandemic and has just re-opened for business.

Where is Coronation Street filmed?
On-screen events and reality are sometimes worlds apart but this is far from the case for Coronation Street.
In 2014, production decided to vacate the old Granada Studios on Manchester's Quay Street.
Cameras and stars were all moved to a purpose-built 7.7 acre site in MediaCityUK.
MediaCity is situated on the banks of the Manchester Ship Canal in Salford and Trafford.
The set at MediaCity was built to a bigger scale than Granada Studios.
The new set also has a Costa Coffee shop, a Co-Op, a new curry house and a community garden.
However, most interior scenes are still shot in studios.
The set includes all of the iconic Corrie landmarks such as The Rovers Return, Roy's Rolls and The Bistro.
You'll also find the exterior of the character's houses on the street there.
From March, 2022, until – at the earliest – autumn, MediaCityUK is opening construction of a new addition to the set.
Soap bosses announced the opening of a construction site for the Weatherfield precinct on March 9, which has often been mentioned in dialogues between characters.

Lola Pearce’s heartbreaking EastEnders exit revealed
EASTENDERS’ Lola Pearce will die from a brain tumour in tear-jerking scenes mirroring the real-life death of The Wanted’s Tom Parker.
Producers discussed the effect the tragedy of the boy band singer had on the nation, and will replicate the emotions in Albert Square.
Lola, played by Danielle Harold, will be seen settling down and falling in love with on-off boyfriend Jay Brown before her cancer takes hold.
And viewers will be “in pieces” as they watch the lovebirds torn apart by her terminal diagnosis.
Jay, played by Jamie Borthwick, will nurse Lola until her final, heart-breaking demise, to be screened later this year.
Soap bosses are determined the exit of the popular character will be handled with “grace and care”, and have worked alongside a brain tumour charity to create the emotional scripts.

Mimi and Evelyn clash
With Fiz Stape (Jennie McAlpine) accepting to marry Phill Whittaker (Jamie Kenna), the pair are getting on with their wedding preparations.
This prompts Phill's mother Mimi (Margot Leicester) to come back to the cobbles, which she left in December, 2021.
Understandably, mostly due to Mimi's well-known snobby behaviour, Fiz is worked up over her pre-wedding visit.
To make matters worse, her volatile daughter Hope (Isabella Flanagan) kicks off about her bridesmaid dress and Fiz worries that her veil is frayed.
When Mimi arrives, Fiz is forced to ask her to stay with her and Phill when she tells them no hotel will take her dog Coco.
This is baffling for Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman) and tensions begin to arise.
Mimi is knocked flying by Evelyn's own dog Cerberus and sustains a sprained hip.
It becomes apparent that both women living under the same roof will be a strain for everyone involved.

Denise Welsh slams Coronation Street’s Michael Le Vell
Denise Welch has said her worst kiss of all time was with Michael Le Vell.
The Loose Women star, 64, made the admission on today’s show as she discussed her time on Corrie – describing the smooch as like ‘kissing a cat’s bum’.
Denise played barmaid Natalie Barnes on the cobbles from 1997 to 2000.
Her character famously embarked on a steamy affair with Kevin Webster (played by Michael), who was married to Sally at the time.
She explained: "I was in Corrie and Natalie had to steal Kevin Webster, the most happily married man away.
"I had to say to Michael 'we can’t do anything really sexy because it’s pre watershed, so you have to kiss me, like you really, really want to kiss me, so the audience believe this is the most passionate affair that makes you leave Sally'.
"But he was quite shy so I used to say you have to put your hand behind my head. It was like (purses lips together). It was really difficult.
As the rest of the panel continued, she continued: "It was a bit like a cats bum sort of shape. Sorry Michael because I love you, but it was a bit like kissing a cat’s bum. Sorry you have got to say."

Fans shocked by soap stars exit
SHOCKED EastEnders fans took to Twitter to express sadness and surprise as a beloved EastEnders character leaves the Square.
EastEnders' Maddy Hill made a shock departure from the soap last week after a year back on the show.
She joined in 2014 but left in 2016 after marrying Tamwar Masood (Himesh Patel) to travel the world.
Hill made a return to the show a year ago when it was revealed that her character and Tamwar were getting a divorce, but last week she left the soap in the back of a taxi.
Nancy's been struggling with her mother's alcoholism and troubles with her boyfriend Zack. Finding out that the latter cheated on her, Nancy made the shock decision to leave the square for good.
Hoping to take her sister with her, she left her behind at the request of her mum, Linda.
Fans took to Twitter to express their sadness at the exit with one posting: "Am I the only one to cry at Nancy leaving omg #eatsenders"
But as we know, returns happen when you least expect it and thankfully she wasn't killed off.
Perhaps we'll see her on the square again one day.
