Coronation Street star says acid attack changes Ryan Connors life forever
Coronation Street star Ryan Prescott has revealed that his character, Ryan Connor's, life will be changed forever after the harrowing acid attack on Monday's episode.
During the latest instalment, fans were left in shock by a harrowing plot twist when Ryan was revealed to be the victim of a vicious acid attack while defending Daisy Midgeley from stalker Justin Rutherford.
In the harrowing scenes that followed, the DJ could be seen writhing in agony after being attacked while stepping in to protect Daisy.
Later, after being rushed to medics, the episode ended with a traumatised Ryan covered in bandages recovering in a hospital bed.
Talking about what is next for his character, actor Ryan, who plays Ryan, told Metro: "By this point, he’s starting to see things are never going to be the same again.
"He’s trying to reach out and clutch onto whatever he can within his life that will allow him to deny the reality. He sees things like his relationship with Alya and the chance to go to Ibiza slipping away from him and naturally tries to reach out in desperation. I think he knows there are stages of acceptance and denial. Slowly, he understands the gravity of what’s happened."
Discussing what happens next for his character, he continued: "It will change the way Ryan interacts with the world. The difficulty within the parameters of soap is to show some kind of reality that comes with the longevity of what it means to be an acid attack survivor."
The actor added that the "recovery period is so long, if not lifelong" and his character will start to push people away as he hates "being on the receiving end of pity".
It comes as Monday's episode finally saw evil stalker Justin arrested after he followed Daisy to the hospital after the harrowing acid attack.
Elsewhere, fans at home were shocked by the turn of events, as all of the pre-transmission information had suggested it would be Daisy herself that would face the brunt of the attack.
“I’m gonna be hearing Ryan’s screams in my sleep for many nights to come.. I just can’t describe how I’m feeling right now…” wrote one fan.
Another commented: “I’m torn between thinking #CoronationStreet have done a powerful job of showing why stalking is so very dangerous and also thinking this might just be too dark. This is so goddamn scary."
A third then weighed in adding: “Poor Ryan in #Corrie maybe this story being done the police will do more about stalking and take it more seriously. Well done #coronationstreet for doing this story line and to the fantastic actress that plays Daisy.”
Another fan also echoed the sentiment as they wrote: “Ryan, Daisy and Evelyn actors don't get awards for these performances tonight and last week, there's no justice in this world. I've never felt anything like this for a soap. Ryan's screams I'll never unhear. Brilliantly done, #corrie! #coronationstreet."
Another fan agreed, adding: “Ryan’s screams are going to haunt me forever #CoronationStreet going all out tonight.”
As another viewer commented: “Well done everyone involved in #CoronationStreet tonight. More needs to be done for the victims of stalking and coercive/controlling behaviour. See too many cases of incidents happening that could’ve been avoided if police/courts acted stronger earlier.”
