Dev (played by Jimmi Harkishin) has been unable to adjust to the idea that his only son Aadi (Adam Hussain) is set to marry girlfriend Kelly (Millie Gibson). Feeling the pressure, Dev lashed out at his son last week, which led to the youngster falling and hitting his head. In upcoming scenes, Dev realises he has been too harsh on his son and only wants what’s best for him. In the process, he could see an unexpected romance of his own appear after opening up about his feelings.
Official spoilers for next week see Bernie Winter (Jane Hazelgrove) accidentally smash the first golf trophy Aadi ever won while cleaning.
Dev’s apoplectic and sacks her on the spot leaving Bernie desperate for cash and calling her rich doppelganger Fern (Gabrielle Glaister) for help.
Elsewhere, during Evelyn Plummer’s (Maureen Lipman) first shift at the charity shop, Joy lays down the ground rules whilst Evelyn is forced to bite her tongue.
After making a call, Evelyn reveals she’s off to Cornwall for a few days and leaves Joy in the lurch.
Dressed in Fern’s fine clothes and jewellery and making out she’s got a job interview, Bernie leaves Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) to babysit the quads. What is she up to?
Bernie is no stranger to a scam and it looks like she could revert to her old ways to make some quick cash.
Later, Dev apologises for overreacting about the broken trophy and pours out his heart to Bernie, blaming himself for failing to protect Aadi.
Bernie assures him nobody could wish for a better dad and Dev’s touched by her kindness. Could the pair revisit their whirlwind romance once again?
Bernie could be a shoulder to cry on for Dev and a positive distraction from the dread of his son moving out and becoming a husband.
However, Dev could also be just the thing Bernie needs to stop her from seeing Fern and going back to her old ways, getting herself in more trouble.
Meanwhile, Asha tells Dev that Aadi’s being discharged from the hospital, but as they arrive Aadi wonders why they’re late. Will Dev admit who he was with?
Knowing how his dad reacted the first time around when he slept with Bernie, how would Aadi take the news he could revisit the romance?
Aadi may be happy for his father as it means he’ll get off his back about marrying Kelly, but it could turn sour with Aadi thinking he has double standards.
Dev assures the twins he loves them both equally, but will all be forgiven in the Alahan house?
Dev and Bernie initially grew close last summer when they enjoyed a fake date, which turned into a real date when they spent the night together.
Thinking they had something special, Bernie was left humiliated when Dev claimed that he had only been intimate with her because he was drunk.
Jane previously opened up about the romance between Bernie and Dev, as she told Digital Spy: “They both like a giggle and I think she’s quite good for him.
“They’re both having some much-needed fun. They’re both consenting adults and they’re bang up for it.
“I think long-term, I don’t know about the romance’s potential to be serious. But Dev sets something off in Bernie that nobody has set off in her for a long time.
“He’s essentially a good man and, let’s face it, she’s made some pretty awful choices in the past.”
Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8pm on ITV.
