Coronation Street couple Tyrone Dobbs (played by Alan Halsall) and Fiz Stape (Jennie McAlpine) finally tied the knot on Christmas day after their on-off relationship of 21 years. Their romance is often compared to Jack Duckworth’s (William Tarmey) and Vera Duckworth’s (Elizabeth Dawn) marriage, however, Alan Halsall recently admitted that he didn’t think anyone could “touch” what they had.

Tyrone and Fiz live in the house that Jack and Vera used to live in and were like parents to Tyrone who used to be their lodger.

Jack and Vera were married for 50 years until she died in 2008, with Jack continuing to live with Tyrone and his then-partner Molly Dobbs (Vicky Binns).

The couple were so iconic and beloved by viewers that the writers at the time reunited them for emotional scenes of Jack’s death.

As he sat alone in the house he’d shared for so long with his wife, Jack nodded off and dreamed that Vera was back with him as he peacefully passed away.

Alan and Fiz recently opened up about Tyrone and Fiz’s relationship and were adamant that they would never be as iconic as Jack and Vera.

Alan told Express.co.uk and other press: “I’ll be honest, it’s something I shy away from as much as possible can.

“For me, Jack and Vera were out there on their own. I think they’re absolutely brilliant. I’d like to be the Tyrone and Fiz, but I don’t think anyone can touch Jack and Vera.”

Jennie added: “Absolutely, but equally, it’s always lovely to be asked that and also just the fact that, especially through Tyrone’s history with them, we’ve always remembered them.

“Their picture is still up in our house and we have their bar because we have had to live in their house and that’s an absolute treat.

“And what is so special about Corrie and 60-odd years later is that we carry on and we evolve and that is what happens in life, but to remember that past is lovely and I hope we never stop that.”

Jennie and Alan have been an on-screen couple for the past 21 years, with Alan admitting that he has kissed Jennie more than anyone else in his life.

“It’s interesting. We did an interview about a week or so ago when we got to see our very first kiss which was 21 years ago.

“So yeah, probably been kissing Jenny longer than I have anyone else in my life so yeah it’s crazy.

“I think as a couple there have been so many times, Very, very close but at least this time they make it.”

After a tough couple of years, the couple finally tied the knot on Christmas Day, after Tyrone surprised the love of his life with a secret wedding.

However, in true Coronation Street style, there was a moment when he thought Fiz has jilted him at the alter after she went missing for a couple of hours.

Fiz had left their home on Christmas morning to find a turkey after feeling let down by Tyrone’s effort but was left stranded without her phone after the car broke down.

Luckily for Tyrone, a Christmas miracle was performed and Fiz made it in time for the ceremony to take place, with a few witnesses to the nuptials.

Later in the Rovers, celebrating their big day, Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell) made a speech and noted Jack and Vera, who had been “looking out for them” from beyond the grave.

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8pm on ITV.
