Corrie star says its insincere to hope ex co-star Kym Marsh will win Strictly

Coronation Street actor Charlie De Melo has sent sweet words of praise to his former co-star Kym Marsh as she appears on Strictly Come Dancing but refused to say if he believed she would win the series.

The Imran Habeeb actor, who was killed off the soap back in June in a car crash, gushed over Kym, 46, at the Inside Soap Awards on Monday evening (October 17) dubbing her "absolutely brilliant".

“She’s absolutely brilliant. The standard is unbelievably high,” he told the Daily Star at the showbiz event.

Charlie admitted that he doesn’t keep up with the show every week but is very impressed with the standard of the couples.

He added: “I’m not a regular viewer. I did watch the entire show yesterday.

"Usually there’s someone there that they turn their nose up at but no, everyone is doing such an incredible job.”

When asked about whether he thought Kym would win the show, he said: “I’d love to see it because Kym is a force of nature but it would be insincere of me to say because the competition she’s up against is unbelievable.”

Kym landed in the dreaded dance-off on Sunday (October 17) against Matt Goss with all three judges opting to save her.

Judge Shirley Ballas said she was saving Kym on the basis of her and pro partner Graziano Di Prima being “slightly more technical,” a reason that didn’t go down too well with viewers online.

Reacting to it on Twitter, one posted: “Matt Goss dances like a piece of cooked spaghetti & Shirley reckons Kym only had a slightly more technical dance??? u ok hun?”

Kym paid an emotional tribute to her late son Archie to mark Baby Loss Awareness Week on Sunday (October 16).

The mum-of-three, 46, and her ex-husband Jamie Lomas were heartbroken when their baby boy died in 2009 after being born prematurely at 21 weeks.

Taking to Instagram with a photo of a candle, angel wings and an 'A' print in a frame, Kym wrote: "We are a family who lost a piece of us.
