Corrie's domination up for beating as Inside Soap nominations are revealed

The nominations for this year’s Inside Soap Awards have been revealed, and given what a year all of the nation’s biggest serial dramas have had, fans are going to have their work cut out for them in choosing a winner!

Coronation Street has been nothing short of incredible over the past 12 months, with the aftermath of the hate crime storyline sending shockwaves through the cobbles.

The ITV soap has won a string of awards at various ceremonies as of late, including last year’s Inside Soap Awards, so will it continue to reign supreme?

Or will viewers vote differently this year?

Corrie has had some stiff competition this year from Emmerdale, for one, which saw serial killer Meena Jutla (Paige Sandhu) wreak havoc in the eponymous village, claiming life after life, and leaving chaos in her wake.

Hollyoaks, meanwhile, saw Misbah Maalik (Harvey Virdi), in powerful scenes, come to the realisation that Ali Shahzad (Raji James) had raped her.

The Channel 4 soap also aired a stunning hour-long episode in January, in which the show’s signature cafe burnt to the ground, claiming the lives of two mainstays.

We’re still not over it.

Over in EastEnders, Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) went to prison, Jean Slater took centre stage in an emotional bipolar storyline, and Gray Atkins’ (Toby-Alexander Smith) reign of terror finally came to an end.

Walford’s greatest offerings this year, however, were arguably the return of legendary characters Janine Butcher (Charlie Brooks) and Sam Mitchell (Kim Medcalf).
