The 13th Doctor, Jodie Whittaker, is wrapping up her stint as the first female Time Lord later this week on BBC One. Ahead of Doctor Who’s highly anticipated special, The Power of the Doctor, the cast gathered in London to preview what’s to come from Jodie’s last adventure across time and space.
Actor Sacha Dhawan has confirmed he reinvented his incarnation of the Master for his final face-off against Jodie’s Doctor.
His sadistic incarnation of the time-traveller’s nemesis will return one last time this Sunday with yet another evil plan.
At The Power of the Doctor’s premiere in London, Sacha revealed to Express.co.uk and other press as he talked with showrunner Chris Chibnall about keeping fans on their toes with the Master’s return.
“It was really nerve-wracking,” he admitted of coming back for one last episode.
“For me, once people had seen the incarnation, I wanted to keep that but try and reinvent that a little bit, and keep the audience guessing.”
Very little is known about the Master’s latest plan to wipe the Doctor from history.
However, cryptic teaser trailers have also previewed the return of the hero’s other greatest foes, the Daleks and the Cybermen.
Plus, the Master appears to have disguised himself as infamous Russian advisor Gregori Rasputin, undoubtedly to ambush the Doctor in an unexpected corner of history.
Ahead of Sacha and Jodie’s last-ever showdown, the Doctor Who guest star detailed some of the chats he had with the showrunner about changing up his portrayal for his last episode.
He recalled: “Working with Chris again, it was so collaborative, we had conversations early on about mixing it up a bit.
“So, I’m really b****y proud of it, actually!”
When asked who he was channelling for his particularly evil portrayal of the Master, he quipped: “You don’t want to know!”

Chris and Sacha’s approach to the Master this time around clearly paid off, as Jodie launched into a touching tribute to his stunning appearances throughout the series.
She also revealed Sacha was one of the more professional members of the cast, especially when the lead actress was spending time with companions Mandip Gill and Bradley Walsh.
“He’s ace,” Jodie said. “He’s so brilliant and such a team player.
“But we all needed to take a leaf out of his book because he knows when to concentrate.”
“So, particularly in Spyfall, we’d be, like, ‘Nyah nyah nyah’, and Brad’s regaling us with some, ‘You’ll never guess what I did’, or some kind of story.
“Then we’d be like, ‘Where’s Sacha?’ And we’re like, ‘Oh yeah. He’s being a professional actor! I’m going to go do that as well!’”
Jodie and Mandip also remembered Sacha’s first introduction as the Master with particular fondness, as none of the cast knew who he was really playing until the big reveal.
With Ncuti Gatwa inheriting the keys to the TARDIS next year, the Doctor’s nemesis could also be back in another form to menace the Time Lord through time and space.
Doctor Who: The Power of the Doctor airs Sunday, October 23 at 7:30pm on BBC One.
