Dominic Brunt reveals Frank Tate legend is behind Paddy's long Emmerdale stay
Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt) has become an Emmerdale icon after 25 years on the show, but it could have been over a lot sooner if Frank Tate actor Norman Bowler hadn’t stepped in.
Actor Dominic Brunt recently revealed that he was originally only contracted for eight episodes, where vet Paddy would cover for Zoe Tate (Leah Bracknell) while she was on holiday.
‘I came for eight episodes and on the last day Norman Bowler who used to play Frank Tate asked, ‘Have you enjoyed yourself?’’ Dominic explained.
‘I told him I’d loved it and wished I could stay a bit longer. So he told me to go upstairs, knock on the producer’s door and tell them exactly that.’
Luckily, Dominic plucked up the courage to take the esteemed actors advice, and was written back into the show soon after.
‘I was really nervous, I didn’t think it was my place. But I did it. And four months later they’d written me back in,’ he revealed in a chat with The Mirror.
It is clear that Dominic made the right decision, as he went on to be involved in some of Emmerdale’s biggest storylines.
Most recently, he has been at the forefront of an issue led story that has shone a light on men’s mental health.
Beloved character Paddy hit rock bottom and considered attempting suicide, but was fortunately found by best friend Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock) and wife Chas (Lucy Pargeter).
Since then, he has been making big decisions for his future, including telling Chas that he can’t see them being together anymore, following her affair with Al Chapman.
Elsewhere, Frank Tate’s name is also being thrown around, despite the fact that the character was killed off in 1997.
Newcomer Caleb Milligan (Will Ash) was recently revealed as Frank Tate’s son, and has concocted a plan to bring down Kim Tate (Claire King) to take what is rightfully his.
