Dr Hilary Jones amazes Good Morning Britain viewers as he reveals his age on his birthday
Good Morning Britain fans were stunned on Monday’s show as Dr. Hilary Jones celebrated a big birthday.
The TV doctor, who first appeared on the show thirty years ago, left fans in disbelief as he revealed his age in an on-air birthday celebration.
Dr Hilary’s colleague Richard Madeley, Susanna Reid and Richard Arnold all paid tribute to the star as he turned 70 years old, putting his youthful appearance down to exercise and make-up.
The programme looked back at his first appearance on the show thirty years ago, before showing a montage of clips throughout his TV career.
As Richard Arnold announced that it was the doctor’s 70th, Richard Madeley exclaimed: “I don’t believe it!”
Meanwhile Susanna said: “I want what he’s having”.
Dr Hilary then quipped: “Make-up is brilliant these days, isn’t it? Hides all the wrinkles and everything”.
He later added: “Looking forward to running my next marathon. Ninety-eight is the oldest man to run a marathon, so there’s life in the old dog yet”.
Viewers at home were equally amazed at Dr Hilary’s youthful appearance, with one writing on social media: “SEVENTY! SEVENTY! @DrHilaryJones Is 70 today. Flipping 'eck he's looking good,” as someone else added: “Still the most handsome man on daytime telly at 70 Dr Hilary #Lorraine”.
Another fan tweeted: “Happy 70th Birthday to a Doctoring legend Hilary, you have helped so many people over your years as the Doctor in morning TV, [you’re] a credit to your profession & who doesn't look his age. Have a fabulous Birthday Dr Hilary.”
Following a career as a GP, Dr Hilary began his TV career in 1986, presenting educational programmes for British Medical TV.
It was then in 1989 that Hilary joined ITV’s breakfast show and stole the hearts of the nation, regularly giving insight and comment on medical issues.
He met his current wife Dee in 2008 with the couple later marrying in 2016.
Dee shares the same love as fitness as her husband and has appeared in celeb fitness workouts for EastEnders stars Charlie Brooks, Letitia Dean, Natalie Cassidy and more, sometimes appearing alongside her husband on TV to give fitness tips.
