EastEnders fans obsessed with 'drunken queen' Kathy Beale
EastEnders fans have been hailing Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth) an ‘icon’ following scenes that saw her getting increasingly more intoxicated after the disaster that was Albie’s christening.
Of course, Kathy Beale was already an icon in her own right, having played a significant role in the very first episode of the BBC soap and then returning from the dead years later.
But for more recent viewers, her drunken shenanigans at Albie’s party have proved just why she deserves that title.
As she sank bottle after bottle of champagne and white wine, she began emotionally recalling the events of Martin Fowler’s (James Bye) christening back in 1985.
Fans were obsessed with the humour she brought to the show, especially in contrast to the tense scenes which saw Ravi Gulati (Aaron Thiara) threatening Sharon Watts and Keanu Taylor (Letitia Dean and Danny Walters).
One fan even went so far as to hail it the ‘highlight of the evening’, crowning Kathy ‘Our Drunken Queen’, alongside a compilation of her best drunk moments.
With diehard fans searching for clues in every corner following the flash forward episode that showed The Six surrounding a dead body, some wondered if the focus on drunk Kathy throughout the episode could be a sign for what’s to come.

Obviously, we weren’t just going to let this lie, and did a bit of digging ourselves.
Eagle eyed viewers will know that, during the flash forward scene, Denise Fox (Diane Parish) is holding a broken bottle of champagne.
That champagne just happens to be the same brand as the champagne Alfie Moon (Shane Richie) was pouring for Kathy, when she revealed that it gets her ‘really drunk’.
Could Kathy be sinking bottles of champagne on Christmas day and end up committing murder in her drunken state?
