EastEnders Janine star’s love life – childhood sweetheart to ex living upstairs

Charlie Brooks fans know all about her EastEnders character Janine Butcher's love life.

Her twisted character's romantic ups and downs have often gripped those tuning in to see what's going on in the BBC soap – and with murders, twisted plots and lies, it's no wonder Charlie's romantic life is far from that of Janine Butcher's.

Charlie has been in the public eye for several years, but a lot less is known about her romantic life when she's off screen.

As Janine finds out she's pregnant on the BBC One soap, Daily Star has looked into Charlie Brooks' romance away from Albert Square.

From the star finding romance and having her daughter to making the most of her single life, she's certainly had a whirlwind when it comes to romance.

But it looks like the star is taking a step back and focusing on her career as she puts dating to the back-burner for the time being.

Who are the lucky men who have been in her life though?

Childhood sweetheart

Charlie previously dated Jon Newman, who she first met in stage school.

The pair were apparently smitten with each other when they were young but eventually decided it wasn't going to go the distance.

The actress told the Mirror a few years ago that her break up from Jon – who appeared in shows including Grange Hill – was "very amicable".

"We were childhood sweethearts and we lived together for two years," she said. "It was fantastic – there wasn't a bad day – and I wanted to spend my life with him because he was gorgeous and still is. But I realised I needed to be on my own a little bit to find myself."

Father of her child

The TV star dated Ibiza nightclub owner Tony Truman for a few years and in 2004 they welcomed daughter Kiki.

The couple's romance came to an end in 2007, but they have continued to co-parent Kiki and are on great terms with one another.

Tony even lives in the apartment above Charlie.

Speaking on Yahoo's White Wine Question Time podcast last year, Charlie said she and Tony would always be very close.

"We are going to grow old together, just in a very different way," she said.

“He is absolutely my family and nothing will ever change that.”

Architect beau

The star went on to date architect Ben Hollington after they were introduced by mutual friends.

They stepped out together for a few years and Charlie said she was "very happy".

The pair have now split, but Charlie said on White Wine Question Time that Ben was an "amazing" person.

Currently single

The actress is currently thought to be single.

But speaking to Closer last year, she shared that there was an upside to being on your own.

"I've been single for pretty much four years and, hand on heart, they have been the most important four years of my life," she was quoted as saying.

"It's easy to forget who we truly are. We get so caught up in people's idea of us, and it's ingrained that that's who we are forever – but it's not true."
