EastEnders star Kellie Shirley lands soap role after birth of baby
Former EastEnders star Kellie Shirley has landed a new role in BBC soap Doctors, following the birth of her third child.
Kellie, who took on the role of Carly Wicks in EastEnders in 2006, will now appear in Letherbridge for the third time in her career.
She will take on the role of Jo McLennon, a patient who is suffering with agoraphobia.
During the episode, Jo will realise what her condition is, as well as discovering issues faced by her sons, Freddie, who starts skipping school, and Connor, who turns to drugs.
Kellie has previously appeared on Doctors twice before, once in 2016 in the role of Stella Bailey, and again in 2020 as Doro Kitson.
However, she is perhaps best known to soap fans as Shirley Carter’s (Linda Henry) daughter, Carly.
She left the Square in 2008 after a two year stint, but briefly returned in 2012.
Recently, Kellie gave birth to her third child, a baby boy called Ezra, earlier this year, after a shock pregnancy.
The star previously revealed how she had been feeling unwell, but believed extreme heat was the cause.
However, after a medic on the set of CBeebies show Biff and Chip, which Kellie was filming for at the time, insisted she take a pregnancy test, she was shocked when ‘it came back positive straight away’.
As well as Ezra, Kellie is a mother to 7-year-old twins, who she shares with husband Phil Davies.
When it came to choosing Ezra’s name, Kellie revealed how she and Phil counted to three before saying their favourite name out loud.
When they both said Ezra, they knew it was meant to be.
Viewers will be able to see Kellie in her new role on Doctors when it airs on May 4.
