EastEnders star reveals dying Lola's decision to call off her wedding to Jay
As Lola Pearce (Danielle Harold) prepares for her wedding to Jay Brown (Jamie Borthwick) in EastEnders, there are obviously huge emotions for the bride to be to deal with.
One one side is the happiness she feels that she’s about to marry the man she truly loves, but this is coupled by immense sadness that they might not have much time together as her brain tumour can’t be cured.
As well as this, Danielle Harold told us that Lola begins to feel physically unwell as the wedding approaches.
‘Lola is feeling really down on the day of her hen do, and she’s not feeling very well in herself either,’ she explained. Despite this, Kim (Tameka Empson) and Denise (Diane Parish) rally around to make her feel better.
‘I think it’s probably exactly what she needs at that point, and especially when she is deflated about not being able to find her mum,’ Danielle said. ‘It makes her realise that she’s got good people around her that love her and care for her no matter what.’
After enjoying herself at the hen do thanks to her friends’ efforts, the big day arrives. Danielle gave us a sneak preview of Lola’s wedding outfit, revealing that, ‘Everything is white, which is unheard of for Lola as we usually see her dressed in bright colours! She looks like a princess but with a Lola twist. So much work went on behind the scenes to make sure every detail was right, and it was great that I was able to work with the wardrobe department to incorporate some of those signature Lola-isms in the day. She has glitzy wedding trainers with ribbons, and of course, her hoops!’
It’s as she’s getting dressed on the day of the wedding that things take a bad turn, Danielle revealed.
‘In the morning when Lola is getting ready, Kim notices a nosebleed which really panics Lola and makes her realise how unwell she is. From this, they make the decision to go to the hospital.’
And that’s when she decides she wants to call off the wedding.‘I think Lola feels so overwhelmed, as would any bride on her wedding day,’ Danielle said.
‘When she realises she’s ill, she’s already dressed and they are really up against it on timings so Kim suggests they stop by the hospital on the way to the wedding to get Lola checked out. Once Lola is there in the moment, she has a realisation when everyone turns and stares at her dressed in her wedding dress in the A&E waiting room, and that’s when all of those emotions start to bubble to the surface.’
Is it last minute nerves or something worse? Will the wedding take place or are Lola and Jay destined to never make it to the altar?
