Emmerdale boss confirms beloved character returns for summer wedding

Emmerdale: Moira has no choice but to sell the farm

Earlier this year, Charity Dingle (played by Emma Atkins) and Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) tied the knot at St Mary’s Church in front of their loved ones.

However, their marriage has already ended up in tatters after Charity discovered he’d been unfaithful to her and fathered Chloe Harris’ (Jessie Elland) newborn baby Reuben. 

Another wedding plot is brewing between Nicky Milligan (Lewis Cope) and Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham) – but the latter has no idea he’s gay and is using her as part of his secret dad Caleb Milligan’s (Will Ash) plan to take over Home Farm. 

Nicky has told Gabby he doesn’t want to get intimate with her until after they have walked down the aisle, but the truth is he is in love with a man called Ally (Josh Horrocks). 

Another love story is unfolding on screens between Belle Dingle (Eden Taylor-Draper) and returning character Tom King (James Chase) – could they be tying the knot soon?

Ahead of Gabby and Nicky’s wedding, Emmerdale boss Jane Hudson spoke to Express.co.uk and other media about a character returning to the soap who is linked to “at least one” summer marriage. 

She said: “There is another wedding – at least one coming up before we get to the end of summer.”

“One of the weddings will be more traditional than Charity’s and Mackenzie’s,” she stated. 

Speaking about a character returning to the village for one of the ceremonies, she said: “We will have a familiar face returning before the end of summer which I think the audience will be absolutely delighted.”

“Hopefully they will be here for the foreseeable,” Jane added. “The returning character is coming back for one of the weddings.”

She did not give away any clues about which character will be making a comeback, so the possibilities are almost endless. 

In upcoming scenes, Caleb pushes Nicky to persuade Gabby to move their wedding forward. 

Caleb celebrates as the malware on Kim Tate’s (Claire King) laptop starts to give him access to her bank accounts.

Meanwhile, Gabby makes another attempt to get Nicky to break their self-imposed celibacy, but he tells her he wants to wait.

Focusing on the wedding, Gabby asked Bernice Blackstock (Samantha Giles) to walk her down the aisle as she remains in the dark about Nicky’s sexuality. 

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV and ITVX.
