Emmerdale viewers distracted as Bernice unveils new hairdo on ITV soap

Emmerdale viewers were left distracted in Tuesday’s dramatic episode as Bernice unveiled a new, glitzy hairstyle on the ITV soap.

Bernice Blackstock (Samantha Giles) showcased a bold new look as she went to visit her sister Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler) after her attack.

Nicola has been housebound after the shock and trauma of being the target of an attack by a group of girls.

When Bernice arrives, Nicola hides her struggles from her vibrant sister who sports sparkly threads in her hair and glitter on her face.

Bernice even suggests the duo make a pitch for the Green Initiative for the council, which led her to start to spiral.

As the episode progresses, Nicola feels more trapped in her own home and tries to avoid being home alone with her thoughts urging her dad, Rodney Blackstock to stay with her.

Yet, she’s forced to face her fears and leave her home to collect her children from school.

Nicola gets into the car but her nerves begin to overwhelm her and she slams on the accelerator and accidentally drives into David Metcalfe’s van.

Despite the dramatic and worrying event for Nicola, fans were more hung up on Bernice’s bold new look.

Soap fans headed to Twitter and one wrote: "Sounds like Boomerang Bernice’s wig needs to make a triumphant comeback."

As another added: “What has Bernice done to her hair?"

A third echoed: "What the hell does Bernice look like” as a fourth declared: "I love your sparkly hair Bernice."

Samantha Giles revealed during the coronavirus pandemic that she had to wear a wig when she returned to the village.

She admitted that her hair was quite difficult to style and she had to do it herself due to social distancing rules.

So she began wearing wigs instead. Samantha told the Daily Star: "I’ve got very very thick, wiry, frizzy hair! I can’t do it myself. I just can’t do it!

"Obviously Bernice is a hairdresser so she is not going to be seen looking anything less than having her coiffed look, if you like. So, that has all been really hard!"

Later she ditched the wig, as it was becoming a distraction to viewers.

"The wig has had more publicity than anything at the moment," Samantha said.

"I had the latest message from upstairs, as we call them, to say, 'Just do whatever it takes, just get the wig off her.'

"So I'm allowed to have my hair blow dried twice a week. It will be one of two people who does it, so it's still very Covid-safe," she continued.

"I still have to do my own make-up, but at least I get my hair done. Thank goodness."
