ESCAPE to the Chateau's Dick and Angel have disclosed why the series is ending after 7 years on Channel 4.

Dick and Angel Strawbridge have left fans devastated after they announced the beloved Channel 4 series would be ending.


But now, stars Dick, 63, and Angel Strawbridge, 44 have revealed the reasons why the show will be ending after nine seasons.

The Escape to the Chateau couple revealed that the decision was mainly due to family reasons.

Dick shared: "No one has asked us to stop yet – that’s good!"

"The children are turning nine and 10 – they’ve had an innocence and joy in what we’ve done. We’ve got lots of things we still intend to do, but we want to protect the family part of it," Dick told RadioTimes.

Wife, Angel added: "Absolutely. Finish on a high!"

When news first broke that the show was ending, Dick and Angel put out a statement describing their time on the series as a "famous journey" over the past six years.

"Our decision to buy a Chateau with no water, electricity, heating or sewage has taken us on the adventure of a lifetime and we could never have imagined what would unfold" they said.

"The good, the bad and the ugly… We have cherished every second and love that we have a visual record to show Arthur and Dorothy when they’re older."

Despite the bad news that the loveable show will be coming to an end, fans can expect to still see Dick and Angel as they return to screens in a new spin-off show: Escape to the Chateau: Secret France.

The spin-off series will follow the Channel 4 couple on their journey around the country they call their home, whilst embarking on new adventures.

The latest series of Escape to the Chateau has seen the family continue to build their wedding business at their French chateau.

The last and final episode of the series will air this weekend – with a Christmas special airing on Sunday 11th December.
