Even Domino's Pizza has made a joke about Holly and Phil's 'queue-jumping'
Domino’s Pizza haved waded into the controversy surrounding Holly Willoughby and Phil Schofield ‘skipping’ the queue to visit the Queen’s coffin.
The This Morning presenters came under fire when angry mourners claimed they jumped the queue to pay their respects as Her Majesty lay in state at Westminster Hall on Friday (September 16).
Some 250,000 grievers waited in line in central London, which at times stretched back five miles, to pay tribute to Britain’s longest-reigning monarch in the days ahead of her state funeral.
After igniting a media storm, the show’s bosses opted to include the heavily criticised segment in a special section dedicated to Queen Elizabeth II on Tuesday.
Over footage of the Queen’s coffin, in which Schofield and Willoughby did not appear, the former Celebrity Juice presenter explained they hadn’t taken anyone else’s place in the queue.
She said: ‘The rules were that we would be quickly escorted around the edges to a platform at the back. In contrast, those paying their respects walked along a carpeted area beside the coffin and were given time to pause.’
The 41-year-old went on to say the pair would ‘never jump a queue’, although she ‘understood’ the reaction as it ‘may have looked like something else.’
Following the backlash, This Morning released a statement over the weekend in which they denied any queue jumping had taken place.
They said: ‘Hello everyone, we would like to clarify something. We asked Phillip and Holly to be part of a film for this Tuesday’s programme.
‘They did not jump the queue, have VIP access or file past the Queen lying in state – but instead were there in a professional capacity as part of the world’s media to report on the event.’
