Faye Windass star Ellie Leach opens up on ‘scary’ Coronation Street exit

After spending her formative years on the cobbles of Coronation Street, Ellie Leach, who plays Faye Windass will bid farewell to Weatherfield next week.

In dramatic and emotional scenes, viewers will see her forced to choose between settling down with dependable copper Craig Tinker (Colson Smith) or heading to Slough with her old flame Jackson Hodge (Joseph William Evans) and their daughter Miley (Frankie-Jae Simmonds).

While Faye is struggling with her decision, 22-year-old Ellie is comfortable with her choice to leave the role after 12 years.

“It’s always going to be scary leaving somewhere that you’ve been for a long, long time, but I also think with risk comes reward,” she told The Mirror at the Pride of Manchester Awards.

“To be honest, I’ve been working since I was nine years old so I’m going to go on holiday for a little bit.”

“I think I’m going to do a little bit of a holiday and just do a little bit of travelling,” she revealed.

However, she was cagey when asked if there might be a future return in store for Faye.

“I don’t know,” she laughed. “People will have to watch and see…”

Despite her tender years, the star has been at the centre of some hard-hitting storylines.

She first arrived on the cobbles as the adoptive daughter of Anna (Debbie Rush) and Eddie Windass (Steve Huison).

Her family tree became complicated when she sought out her biological father Tim Metcalfe (Joe Duttine), who subsequently set up home on the street.

The two reconciled and with Anna no longer on the cobbles, she had adoptive brother Gary Windass (Mikey North ) looking out for her also.

At the tender age of 13, her character discovered she was pregnant with Miley, which called on the young actress to perform some hard-hitting scenes.

She struggled to bond with the child, eventually surrendering custody to Jackson, the father of the baby.

In more recent years she spent time in prison when she assaulted Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson) in a case of mistaken identity.

She was also diagnosed with early menopause in a storyline that helped raise awareness of the condition.

Throughout it all Craig has looked on from the sidelines having been besotted with her since they first met before the pair eventually became a couple.

Ellie is the cousin of another former Corrie star Brooke Vincent who played Sophie Webster on the show.

She played the character from 2004 before she left on maternity leave in 2019.

She has since gone on to have a second child with her partner, footballer, Kean Bryan.

Coronation Street is on ITV at 8pm Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights.
