First Dates star Merlin Griffiths reveals 'frustrating' setback in cancer battle | The Sun
FIRST Dates barman Merlin Griffiths has shared a "frustrating" update on his ongoing cancer battle saying he went to hospital for a few procedures due to a "setback".
The telly favourite, 47, who has bowel cancer, first had surgery in April to remove a tumour.
Speaking Metro, 46 year old Merlin said: "I was operated on in April, late April, as you might recall.
"It’s been a long, slow road to recovery. I got myself up and around [because] you’re supposed to do what’s called active recovery these days."
"That was all going well. I had a minor setback so I was in for a couple of procedures."
Merlin explained his body "doesn't heal the same way it used to" due to his radiotherapy treatment which is used to kill cancer cells.

The star said he was under doctors' orders to now take it easy and "not to overdo it so active recovery takes a backseat."
Merlin last updated fans on his health journey in April, writing: "Thank you NHS for literally saving my life."
He added: "Tubes outta everywhere. Aches and pains. But no tumour!"
Merlin, who lives with partner Lucile and sevenyear-old daughter Alix, shot to fame in 2013 when he joined the cast of Channel 4's First Dates.

He was diagnosed with bowel cancer in August 2021 after getting a pain in his stomach he thought was linked to a car accident he had aged 20.
Doctors said he has a 75 per cent chance of living beyond five years and faces a year of treatment.
Fans posted messages of support.
One said: "So strong! If you can stay calm through the night there's a brighter day."
