First Dates viewers open-mouthed as singleton brings VERY unusual item to table | The Sun
THE new series of First Dates welcomed singleton Chris who greeted his date with a unique gift.
Welcoming those in search of love to it's Manchester restaurant, First Dates is back for Series 20 alongside maître d’ Fred Sirieix.
Hoping to see true love bloom, single farmer Chris left viewers confused as he brought an unusual item to the table.
Making quite a first impression, the 60-year-old farmer, who claimed he was voted "sexiest farmer in the North" several years ago, came armed with produce in hopes to woo his date.
Fred was even left lost for words as he greeted Chris in the entrance of the restaurant, as the "cheerful" farmer announced he had "brought some beetroot" for his date.
"Why did you bring beetroot, people bring flowers!?" exclaimed Fred, to which Chris gushed: "It's a vegetable of love."

One fan of the show, who was clearly surprised by the present, took to twitter, stating: "Chris brings beetroot to a date," followed by a confused face emoji.
Another wrote: "Wellll, I suppose the beetroot makes a change to the usual oysters, eh…"
A third added: "Beetroot," before sharing a gif of actor Jim Carrey looking less than impressed.
Chris explained he was looking for love as bringing up children and running a farm has "taken over" his life.

The farmer went on to explain that "beetroot is a aphrodisiac" and challenged bar-tender Merlin Griffiths to make a cocktail out of the vegetable.
Pleased with Merlin's creation, Chris hoped to use the beetroot to encourage his date to "fall" for him.
Chris was paired with 50-year-old office manager, Diane, who appeared to fit his bill of "glowing" and "dark-haired".
Despite their compatibility at first glance, Diane claimed her favourite vegetable was "broccoli" rather than Chris' preferred five-a-day.
Diane, who has been single for five years, was on the hunt for romance after a previous string of "dull" dates.
The pair seemed to hit it off, although Diane did snub Chris' beetroot cocktail, opting for a gin and tonic instead.
Seemingly smitten, Chris and Diane ultimately agreed they would like to see each-other again, meaning there may be more beetroot cocktails on the cards.
