Fleur East explains sentimental reason for her Strictly Come Dancing tears during Waltz
Strictly Come Dancing’s Fleur East has explained the touching reason why she cried during her Waltz with professional Vito Coppola.
During Saturday’s show, the former X Factor contestant danced the Viennese Waltz with her partner and Latin American champion Vito.
Following the stunning performance, Fleur, 34, became emotional while chatting with Claudia Winkleman.
"Oh, look at you,” Claudia said as Fleur sobbed.
Fleur replied: "It's just Vito said to me 'make sure you bring the feeling and really get into the emotion'.
"So all day I've been, like, building it up and getting ready to unleash it, and then just as I stood there it just all came."
While presenting her Hits Radio show, which runs weekdays from 6am to 10am, Fleur updated fans further.
She said: “All day I was trying to make sure I found the right emotion for this dance as I was really worried about going on there, being quite blank and empty and just doing the steps.
“I really wanted to commit to it.
“But just before we danced, I went to see my family who were sitting in the audience and my Uncle Sean lifted his arm to show me his wrist – and he was wearing my Dad’s bracelet.
“He didn’t even say anything to me, just showed it to me and that set me off.
"It was just seconds before I performed and with everything else and just being nervous, I started crying, blubbering!”
She continued to say the sudden onset of emotion helped her and Vito get in the zone.
“In rehearsals I have never acted that way before and as soon as I faced Vito in the dance for the first time he looked at me and his eyes were like ‘oh my gosh she’s crying’ and then immediately he got more into the emotion of it and we were both just really overwhelmed by the end of it,” Fleur explained.
Vito and Fleur ultimately scored an impressive 28 points, with many people online saying it was the best performance of the night.
"Fleur East has MAD skills cause she is dancing with the fittest dancer on #Strictly and I didn’t look at him ONCE," wrote one Twitter user.
Another added: "Fleur east is literally gliding across the floor shes so graceful this is brilliant #strictly."
