Gwrych Castle bids farewell to I’m A Celebrity upon return to Australian jungle

Following the news that I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! is heading back to the jungle, Gwyrch Castle has thanked the ITV series for the ‘honour’ of hosting.

For the past two years, the competition has been held at the historic castle in Wales, due to the restrictions imposed as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

With rules having been largely eased around the world, the next line-up of celebrities will be venturing back to the land Down Under to grapple with Bushtucker Trials galore in the Australian sun.

In a statement released by the official Twitter account for the castle, which dates back centuries, it said that it was ‘such an honour to host I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! for the last 2 years’.

‘As a small charity, we will always be grateful to ITV and I’m A Celebrity for the opportunity to host one of the most watched shows in the UK,’ it said.

‘The show has showcased the true beauty of the Castle to millions of people, and has enabled us to carry out urgent repairs after years of neglect, vandalism and arson. We have a huge amount to do to bring the Castle back to its former glory, but we’re excited for the future!’

The people who run Gwrych Castle added that they’re going to ‘continue to collaborate with ITV and I’m A Celebrity’, as the site remains a tourist attraction for any fans of the series who wish to visit it in person.

‘We will continue to collaborate with ITV and I’m A Celebrity, and we still have many items and set pieces in place from the past the 2 years such as The Clink, the I’m A Celebrity throne, privy and the telephone box. You can pre-book your tickets via our website,’ the statement concluded.

ITV confirmed that I’m A Celebrity would be returning to Australia after months of speculation.

Earlier this year, ITV’s Director of Content Rosemary Newell hinted at the move back to the jungle, when she said: ‘We expect a celebrity to return in Australia in November, when it will generate audience over 11 million.’

I’m A Celebrity last took place in the jungle in 2019, which saw former EastEnders star Jacqueline Jossa crowned queen of the jungle.

Coronation Street star Andy Whyment finished in second place, while radio presenter Roman Kemp finished third.

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! returns to ITV later this year.
