Hamza Yassin received the highest score of the series during last weekend’s Strictly Come Dancing following his energetic performance with his partner Jowita Przystał. Earlier this week, the Countryfile star, who recently opened up about his dramatic weight loss, sparked concerns after he suffered a knee injury during rehearsals.
However, speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk about Hamza’s place in the competition, professor of dance Dr Jill Rose Jacobs claims Hamza could be at risk of injuring himself further.
She went on to point out that the cameraman could suffer from fatigue after being “too busy to eat”.
Speaking on behalf of Heart Bingo, Dr Jill began: “Hamza is very gifted both in terms of his musicality and kinaesthetic movement.
“In the space of a few weeks, Hamza has developed exceptional strength in his technique and form.
“I don’t know how he managed to accomplish this but it is benefitting his Strictly performances.”
Airing her concerns, the expert continued: “However, these same attributes may also make him more susceptible to injury.
“Hamza is the physiological strongman of the competition.
“He is confident about his physicality and abilities, despite being a novice in the world of dance.
“During Strictly’s Result show on Sunday evening, Hamza was interviewed alongside his partner, Jowita Przystal.
“Jowita detailed her daily pre-practice check-ins with Hamza, including ordering meals because ‘Hamza is sometimes too busy to eat’.”
Dr Jill explained that tiredness and fatigue in dancing can be the main cause of injury.
“The research in the fields of Dance & Sports Sciences finds fatigue is the leading cause of injury,” she added.
“I hope that Jowita will see to it that Hamza also has adequate time to rest.
“She might also suggest that Hamza visualize dancing during a massage.”
Dr Jill went on to share her thoughts on Hamza’s dancing ability, and how he can improve this weekend.
The expert said: “If I were to give advice to Hamza, I would caution against standing too ‘upright’ during the lifts.
“Arching the spine with a weight (partner) overhead is a technical no-no. A good deal of credit for the pair’s Strictly success is for Jowita.
“In last week’s performance, Jowita held a solid position in the over-head layout and expertly manoeuvred throughout the lifts, throws, and twists.
“This may be a note for the hair and makeup team but Hamza’s long locks are a concern.
“I would recommend that Hamza should tuck his hair inside his costume or wear it in a tightly bound man-bun Dancers most commonly wear their hair pulled into tight buns and styles that are close to the head, not for beauty, but for safety.”
Strictly Come Dancing airs on Saturday at 6.40pm on BBC One.
