Holly Willoughby ‘skipped’ TRIC Award to avoid ‘humiliation’ of losing
Eamonn Holmes apologises as he struggles at award ceremony
Holly Willoughby appeared to “skip” the Television and Radio Industries Club Awards (TRIC) on Tuesday afternoon to avoid the “humiliation” of losing out on winning the best Daytime TV award.
Last year, Holly and her former co-star Phillip Schofield were all smiles as they stepped onto the stage to accept their trophy.
However, both Holly and Phillip were absent from this year’s ceremony.
Instead, A Place in the Sun won the award and saw Ben Hillman and his co-stars accepting their trophy, which was presented by Ellie Simmonds.
One ITV insider told the Daily Mail: ‘If you were Holly you wouldn’t have gone, would you?
“Not only would you have come face to face with Eamonn but you would have had to go through the humiliation of losing out to A Place in The Sun.
“It was all very different to this time last year when Holly and Phil turned up, big smiles on their faces, and were the toast of the do.”
According to reports, Holly did not attend the awards which were held at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel, because she had “other commitments”.
Holly’s absence meant she also didn’t have any run-ins with former This Morning host Eamonn Holmes, who has been very vocal about Holly and Phillip since he left This Morning.

After This Morning missed out on winning Best Daytime TV Show, Ben gave an emotional acceptance speech where he paid a tribute to former presenter Jonnie Irwin.
“Wow,” Ben said taken aback at their win. “I am so sweaty I can’t believe it. I have literally just got back off of holiday.
“I took the children to school this morning, I went to class assembly, I ran up here and I never expected this.”

“This is fantastic, thank you to TRIC, thank you to everybody that has voted for us,” he continued.
“It is 23 years almost now which is unbelievable, there are so many people from behind the scenes here who do amazing work and keep the show on the road.”
“Gosh, I am exhausted…thank you everybody that voted,” he repeated.
“Obviously, someone we would like to mention is a fantastic presenter who has been on the show for decades, Jonnie Irwin.”
“I know you’re out there somewhere, Jonnie,” Ben added. “This one is for you too, Jonnie, and thanks Channel 4, I think that’s got it.”
