I’m A Celeb fans ‘cringe’ as Matt Hancock stumbles over Sweet Caroline words
I’m A Celebrity fans were left ‘cringing’ as Matt Hancock awkwardly stumbled over the words of Sweet Caroline during a camp singalong.
Viewers of the ITV reality show described the 44 year old former Health Secretary’s singing fail as “uncomfortable” and “embarrassing”.
The campmates gathered for a rousing rendition of Sweet Caroline after retired Lioness Jill Scott was awarded three plays of the football anthem as her luxury item.
Matt tried to join in, bopping and mumbling along, though it was clear to viewers that he did not know the lyrics of the Neil Diamond classic.
Fans of the show took to Twitter to share their amusement and disbelief over the MP’s singing performance.
One posted: “Watching Hancock trying to sing Sweet Caroline was the cringiest thing ever.”
Another wrote: “Does anyone else feel uncomfortable watching Matt Hancock sing Sweet Caroline.”
Meanwhile, someone else commented: “My god how uncomfortable did Matt Hancock look when Sweet Caroline was playing.”
And another fan posted: “'Matt Hancock singing Sweet Caroline is the most awkward thing I’ve ever seen.”
Within moments of entering the jungle, Matt treated viewers to a rendition of Ed Sheeran.
Of his latest performance, one fan tweeted: “I thought Matt singing Ed Sheeran was bad until I just saw him singing Sweet Caroline.”
Surprisingly, Matt was not the only celebrity to fluff the singalong – with Jill herself confessing: "I don't actually know the words!", leaving the rest of her campmates in fits of laughter.
Earlier in the show, Matt said he "messed up and fessed up" after his affair with Gina Coladangelo.
In June 2021, the former Health Secretary, 44, was forced to resign after CCTV footage surfaced of him embracing his then aide Gina, at a time when this would breach his own rules on physical contact during the Covid pandemic.
Matt addressed the affair in an awkward conversation with Babatúndé Aléshé on Thursday night’s episode and was left squirming as the comedian referred to him as 'grabbing her booty'.
Former Health Secretary Matt said he "fell in love" with Gina.
Babatúndé responded: “You didn’t just ‘fell in love’ you were grabbing booty bruv!”
Matt replied: “Oh give over.”
Babatúndé laughed: “Sorry.”
Matt replied: “You are a comedian". He added: “That’s been hard, I obviously brought it on myself, so yeah… it’s been tough.”
Babatúndé then asked: “Are you still with the lady?”
Matt replied: “With Gina? Yeah, very much so, yeah, totally. That’ll be the best thing about being kicked out, seeing her on the bridge.”
