After two years of being in a castle in Wales, I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! and its presenters Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly returned to the Australian outback. The build-up to the show’s return has been immense over the last couple of weeks with adverts and continuous reveals as to who will be entering into the jungle. However, viewers were left annoyed on Sunday night with many of them not knowing who they were.
The ten celebrities who entered into the jungle on Sunday night include iconic pop singer Boy George, Coronation Street’s Sue Cleaver, Hollyoaks actor Owen Warner and A Place in the Sun presenter Scarlette Douglas.
Joining them is royalty Mike Tindall, Loose Women presenter Charlene White, DJ Chris Moyles, Lioness Jill Scott, Gogglebox star Babatúndé Aléshé and Love Island star Olivia Attwood.
Tory MP Matt Hancock is set to join at a later date along with Seann Walsh.
However, as the show kicked off on Sunday evening, fans were quick to take to Twitter to complain about not knowing who anyone was.
I’m A Celeb fan Jack Lovatt wrote: “Celebrity is an incredibly generous term for half of those in the jungle #ImACeleb.”
@Zayneswrld commented: “So why is Mo’s friend on here if he’s not a celebrity? #ImACeleb #ImACelebrity #Imaceleb2022.”
@KazzWoody joked they were feeling nervous for some shoe legends and teased: “#ImACeleb sorry but I’ve not a clue.
“I’m getting nervous for Chris Moyles having to pretend he knows who these people are!.”
@cherylperrie frustratedly said: “I don’t even know half the people #ImACeleb.”
Paul Liness added: “Every year they do this. They advertise the two big people they get for the show and then the rest of the them nobody knows who they are.”
However, not all viewers were annoyed with the line-up, with Casey Hanbers cheering: “OMG I’M A CELEB IS BACK! I actually know a lot of the people this year too.” (sic)
Returning with a bang, the iconic balance beam task returned where the celebrities had to stand on a plank at the top of a skyscraper.
It normally takes the contestants a few days or even weeks before they utter the dreaded words “I’m a celebrity, get me out of here!”
However, Babatunde Aleshe pulled out of the task, leaving Charlene and Jill to continue on alone.
Looking visibly stressed by what he was being put through and struggling to contain his anxiety, he admitted: “I can’t do this.”
He then shouted: “I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!” walking off of the plank and returning to Ant and Dec.
Supporting his decision, Dec asked: “Alright, let’s get him down, let’s get him down.”
As he made it back, he apologised to Charlene who was still stood out on the plank before she told him: “It’s alright, it’s okay.”
Babatunde is the first contestant to shout the dreaded words this series, but will the other contestants be joining him as they enter their new homes for the next couple of weeks?
I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! airs daily from 9pm on ITV.
